The Last Movie really is horrible. But then I haven't seen Dondi or Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Matt #2, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

Robot Monster, of course!

moley, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

I've only seen ten of the choices (Eegah! only on MST3K), and all I know for sure is The Last Movie is not the worst.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

Lost Horizon.

It goes on.. and on... and on.... and on... and on.... and on... and on....

Mark G, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

The musical one?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

both!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

Is this not the second poll on this subject within the last two days?

Tom D., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

um, yeah that's the one listed up there.

xpost the other was the 'best' film.

Mark G, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

I agree the original can be turgid. (I love the endless bits of Ronald Colman sitting there with a distracted smile as the High Lama does his best Yoda.)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, Mark, I've always wanted to see the musical remake just to see how bad it really was. But it sounds like it's not worth it even for that.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

A couple of wise guys defended Airport 1975 on the other thread. is it cuz Karen Black reminds you of a drag queen?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

perhaps bcz Gloria Swanson does?

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

LH starts fine, up to the plane crash and rescue.

Then I just remember bailing out (it was on TV), watching something else, flicking over every so often only to find they were still dancing and singing THE SAME SONG!!!

Eventually, I found out the ending from Mad Magazine's satirical version.

Mark G, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

flicking over every so often only to find they were still dancing and singing THE SAME SONG!!!

And Bacharach and David did the music!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

haven't seen too many of these. voted for Santa Claus v Martians as it isn't entertaining even in a good-bad way.

abanana, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

Liv Ullmann's accent is...charming

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, 'tune...'

Mark G, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

I bought the double-vinyl LH soundtrack LP in Princeton. For a dollar.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, these movies are obviously not bad at all. Some of them are borderline great, in my opinion:

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974)
Ivan the Terrible, Part I and Part II (1946)
Last Year at Marienbad (1962)
The Omen (1976)
Valley of the Dolls (1967)
Zabriskie Point (1970)

I'm sure there are more there that I haven't seen. Also, Myra Breckinridge is too fun to be on that list.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

i liked the old lost horizon when i was a kid. i doubt the story plays well in the 70s.

J.D., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 27 March 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Is 'The Terror of Tiny Town' the all-midget western? That was great! Not intentionally, sure, but it was fun to watch, which is more than can be said for some of the other stuff on this list. Or many of the films released recently which could be here, too (ie Rush Hour 73 or whatever, Meet the Spartans, etc etc etc).

James Morrison, Thursday, 27 March 2008 01:09 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 28 March 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

are any of these really worse than Crash? (which M Medved musta hated for its liberal fortune-cookie style, something on which we can agree at last)

Dr Morbius, Friday, 28 March 2008 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

Lost Horizon (1973)

With John Gielgud as Chang

Joe, Friday, 28 March 2008 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

I love the way some of those films are actually good. The Medveds are total cockfarmers.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Friday, 28 March 2008 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

In fact, the more I think about it, there are probably at least 20 Hollywood films from this year worse than pretty much anything on this list.

James Morrison, Saturday, 29 March 2008 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

People, you would not say that if you had seen Robot Monster. Truly, the other movies are merely bad. Robot Monster, however, is so bad it creates a rip in the space/time continuum that will never be repaired. See for yourself:

Eazy, Saturday, 29 March 2008 07:04 (eighteen years ago)

haha, who knew LARRY KRAMER did the Lost Horizon screenplay?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 31 March 2008 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Okay that Kramer detail is amazing.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 31 March 2008 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster (1973)

^^ this is actually mindblowing.

ian, Monday, 31 March 2008 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

^^^yep

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 31 March 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

Doesn't the band in that essentially invent Acid Mothers Temple?
