So hard to choose, I'll do so at work, but my favs are: Millie, the Coach, Jeff and Harris

I like Barry Schweiber too but he's a one off

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 27 March 2008 05:40 (eighteen years ago)

Harris and Rosso!

Dan I., Thursday, 27 March 2008 05:46 (eighteen years ago)

i agree with jon

max, Thursday, 27 March 2008 05:46 (eighteen years ago)

I want to make some elaborate LOTR metaphor about this show and Jeff = Merlin and Sam = Frodo

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 27 March 2008 05:58 (eighteen years ago)

GOD IM TIRED SHUT UP

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 27 March 2008 05:58 (eighteen years ago)

sam called neal bilbo baggins one time lol. another brick in the wall. biff coach was one of the richest secondary characters, not gonna vote yet.

tremendoid, Thursday, 27 March 2008 06:22 (eighteen years ago)

I never saw any of this show at all until I watched the whole series over the last week and a half. First instinct is Harris because I knew so many of that guy in real life (lol engineering school), but a bunch of others work just as well.

joygoat, Thursday, 27 March 2008 06:58 (eighteen years ago)

harris and millie no contest

remy bean, Thursday, 27 March 2008 07:11 (eighteen years ago)

oh my god was my life like this show, ugh

remy bean, Thursday, 27 March 2008 07:11 (eighteen years ago)

match up ilx poster high school friends with f&g characters remy

max, Thursday, 27 March 2008 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

jw – neal schweiber
elmo – nick andopolis
pj – bill haverchuck
me – sam weir
ian – lindsay weir

remy bean, Thursday, 27 March 2008 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

maybe i was more of a nick andopolis and elmo was more of the ken miller

remy bean, Thursday, 27 March 2008 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

I like the way the Coach would say "WE-IR!" when Sam was in some kind of fix, like streaking behind a blue dot to Madness.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Thursday, 27 March 2008 12:19 (eighteen years ago)

Gotta be Trinsky. (Though where is Toby the ID guy?)

Stevie T, Thursday, 27 March 2008 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

Feedback is one of my favorite bands ever, so I'm tempted to say Mr. Rosso. Karen Scarfoli (aka Karen Filippelli) and Eli (aka endless OTT creepy character parts) have done pretty well for themselves since F&G. And Col. Andropolis continued being a total prick dad (stealing Locke's kidney and all)!

There's lots of them I can't place just by reading through the poll ("Mark"?).

Was Vicky the cheerleader who spent 7 minutes in heaven with Haverchuck (which I think was the least believable moment in the series, but I still cheered for the guy)?

Christ, I have about 50 other DVD boxsets to crack into, but this poll just makes me want to revisit this one all over again...

Savannah Smiles, Thursday, 27 March 2008 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

Amy Andrews

^^^ voting for "tuba girl" because she managed to pull off the whole hermaphrodite plotline in a really sympathetic, realistic way and was still really hot

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 27 March 2008 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

although on a level playing field Harris should really win. one of my best friends in high school was JUST like him, right down to being the last person you'd expect to be the most sexually experienced guy in his circle of friends.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 27 March 2008 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

harris ftw.

who was the sassy, tuba-playing, sexually ambiguous girl who dated seth rogen?

Jordan, Thursday, 27 March 2008 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know but I might've carefully coded some hints about her in 2 of my last 3 posts.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 27 March 2008 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

whoops

Jordan, Thursday, 27 March 2008 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

she was also the "It's not like I'm a lesbian or anything. I'm attracted to the person. It's just that all the people I've been attracted to happen to be girls." chick in Election

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 27 March 2008 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, you're right, she grew up to be pretty hot.

http://www.getmarried.com/images/host_jess.jpg

xp oh, awesome

Jordan, Thursday, 27 March 2008 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think there's any way Harris can't win this.

I was amused to see "Maureen Sampson" turn up on The O.C. as the girlfriend of some surfer dude that Marissa gets involved with.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 March 2008 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think i can vote in this one, people are making polls way too hard these days :(

n/a, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

Plus, the guy who played Harris (Stephen Sheppard) stayed true to his roots after the show. I think he writes role playing scenarios for some well known European company, and he reviews games for Vice.

I'm reading his livejournal, titled "Output": http://stephenls.livejournal.com/

R.I.P.
So.

I got my first job, a paper route, because I wanted money to buy RPG books. oWoD books in specific, but the oWoD wouldn't exist without D&D, and D&D wouldn't exist without Gygax.

My second job, improbably, was acting on a television show. I would not have gotten it if I hadn't been staying at a friend's house while my mother completed her medical education. The friend in question I would not have met, save for striking up a conversation with him over his Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0. books he brought to school one day. On the television show in question, Freaks & Geeks, I played a Dungeon Master. It's possible the show wouldn't even have existed, if Dungeons & Dragons hadn't done its part in creating a cohesive geek culture with which the show's creators identified.

Without that second job, I'd not have been able to afford a computer. Using the computer my acting paid for, I met my best friend, Richard Clayton, on alt.games.whitewolf, discussing roleplaying games.

Outside of my immediate family, I can think of no single element with more influence over the course of my life than the existence of the roleplaying hobby, which would not have been without E. Gary Gygax.

Thanks, Gary.

You might not be in that photo Catsup Dude but I see at least 3 latebloomers AND my brother in law.

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

I love that Rasheeda Jones has made a career of playing Karens.

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

I disagree with Rosso being on this list. He was on the show more often than Kim Kelly!

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

I'm voting for VICKY "POD PEOPLE" APPLEBEE. The Vicky/Bill 7 minutes in heaven scene is one of the high points of the whole show!

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

Who was the blonde curly haired guy who was all "smart chicks gone bad is SO HOT!".

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

i have decided to vote for millie. it was hard to pick between her and coach, but i have a soft spot for the innocents

xpost also "yeah nick, grab ME a piece!"

n/a, Thursday, 27 March 2008 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

Coach! I always think of him as Biff. I love love love the episode where he talks to Sam about sex.

"Guys, Mr. Rosso can really play the guitar! Those were some hard chords!"

Harris

dan m, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

like anyone has a chance against the totemic millie

gabbneb, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:04 (eighteen years ago)

Harris all the way

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

altho shit yeah Millie is SO GREAT

I love it when the good ones go bad

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

i like harris a lot, he was a perfect casting choice, but the character is a lot more two-dimensional than some of the other choices on the list

n/a, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

I think Rosso and the coach and Millie kinda shouldn't be on this list, they all got a lot of screen time and in some cases entire episodes dedicated to them

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

but... Harris, naked... speaking German... about how he's comfortable with his body

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

i love coach, too. the scene with him eating ice cream and watching different strokes while being prank called by haverchuk = awesome.

lauren, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

plus he's fucking BIFF from Back to the Future

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

How come that Carrot Top-looking guy isn't on this poll? He's already been quoted twice.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

What's Joel Hodgson's character's name?

Lolpez, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

It seems like no one is going to vote for Gordon Crisp which is kind of heartbreaking, but also v appropriate.

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

I love it when the good threads go bad!

James Redd and the Blecchs, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

harris ftw

jaxon, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

I'm voting for Gordon Crisp because a) I love him and b) everyone else will vote for Harris.

Is Kevin Corrigan's character on here?

Also I think Joel's character's name was Disco Dave or Dan or something.

jessie monster, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks for reminding me of Joel :)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

The Vicky/Bill 7 minutes in heaven scene is one of the high points of the whole show!

I just never bought that Vicky would have pulled the shrug/"oh, what the hell"/lean in for the Haverkiss move. The show never pulled any other punches in the heartbreaking/kids-can-be-so-goddamned-cruel arena, so it stands out to me. Don't get me wrong, this is the best show in the history of the planet.

Oh - and do yourself a favor and pick up Paul Feig's post F&G book, which had me aching with laughter several times:

That's right; Joel sold Sam the Parisian Night Suit!

http://www.freaklopedia.com/Wallpaper/Samsm.jpg

Savannah Smiles, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

on the other hand, i think a big part of the show is that there are no "bad" characters, even if they are occasionally cruel. i think it's supposed to be a redemption of the bitchy cheerleader, just like the peanut allergy episode was the redemption of the bully

n/a, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:01 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know, man. Mr. Andopolis getting rid of Nick's drums was a serious dick move.

Savannah Smiles, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

There were other scenes where they - maybe not necessarily made her more sympathetic - but humanized Vicky more. Her reaction to Neil as the mascot was great!

I wish PARISIAN NIGHT SUIT was an option in this poll.

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:13 (eighteen years ago)

"I guarantee you will be a hit with the ladies."

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

"Look at me - I'm not an attractive guy"

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

altho if we were including him we would also have to include Ben Stiller and Max Fishcher/whatshisface

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

gotta go for the coach

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 27 March 2008 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

NICK'S DAD HAD A POINT

balls, Thursday, 27 March 2008 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

voted harris, might've voted amy andrews if i'd remembered she was tuba girl. CUTE.

balls, Thursday, 27 March 2008 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

"hey tuba girl that tuba is so HOT"

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 27 March 2008 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

Col. Andropolis continued being a total prick dad

in the commentaries all the actors said they were afraid of him.
he was so evil in Matewan.

tremendoid, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

he was also evil in eight men out. i wonder if he's ever played a non-evil character?

n/a, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

i never thought of it before but is nelson muntz' face modeled on biff's?

tremendoid, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

It's Harris for me, but Mr. Rosso is close behind for the scene where he tells Lindsay "I think I just blew your mind."

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

One for the Coach. Go Biff!

Nhex, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

Though where is Toby the ID guy? - OTM. Kevin Corrigan is fucking great in the role of Millie's burnout cousin. This would have my vote if it were an option.

Pillbox, Friday, 28 March 2008 01:04 (eighteen years ago)

he was fucking great yes

tremendoid, Friday, 28 March 2008 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

"Hey you, McMurphy!"

James Redd and the Blecchs, Friday, 28 March 2008 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

i wonder if he's ever played a non-evil character?

He was pretty non-evil on Emergency! which was the best show ever when I was like 5 years old.

I vote for the hot teacher who visited Bill in the hospital

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 28 March 2008 08:33 (eighteen years ago)

wasn't that apatow's wife (leslie manning)?

n/a, Friday, 28 March 2008 12:27 (eighteen years ago)

Rosso has so many great lines. "I'm a boy and I'm a man (or woman)!"

"One day you look at your body in the shower and you think - hey, what's that? what are these?"

"I.. have... herpes"

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 31 March 2008 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

i still stand by the coach, he was so great at being the typical gym coach that it made those odd moments of him being sensitive or even hurt -- like when him and weir have that big conversation about the birds and the bees, or when the kids start making prank phone calls to him -- even more touching, he's a lot deeper of a character than you think at first, he's just lost and sort of lonely just like anyone else but feels like he has to play the role of the tough guy.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 31 March 2008 16:10 (eighteen years ago)
