so last week Leno leeringly asked Ryan Phillippe, on the Tonight Show, to give him "his gayest look."

Gays oblige:

god jay leno is such a waste of space.

horseshoe, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

boring

jeff, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, dude. Leno should just ride off into the sunset on one of his millions of vintage motorcycles.

I've never found him funny at all. Letterman and Conan are so much funnier.

B.L.A.M., Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

agreed

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

worst interviewer ever

carne asada, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

I'd love Ryan Philippe to give me his gayest look.

balls, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

I've never found him funny at all. Letterman (is). . . so much funnier.

Yes, but Leno crushes Letterman in the ratings. Consistently.

America is full of idiots who hate people who are "mean" or sarcastic or even flirt with being highbrow.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

good thing Avenue Q rose above such shameful stereotypes as these

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

i'll take avenue q over leno thx

balls, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

leno is like 'telling jokes for dummies'

gff, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

also, Leno in L.A.; Dave in NYC. I think that usually gives Jay the edge in guests. Even so, I, too, find it incredible that ppl prefer Leno. I've never laughed at this dude once.

will, Thursday, 27 March 2008 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

conan gets on my fucking nerves, tbh

gff, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

so let me get this straight - after seeing ryan phillippe give jay leno his gayest look gays were so aroused they piled on lenos ass for some sort of medieval type of gangbang?

now excuse me if this is totally obvious to those more familiar w/gay sexual mores - but why didnt they just fuck phillippe? i mean he was sitting right there, no?

jhøshea, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

America is full of idiots who hate people who are "mean" or sarcastic or even flirt with being highbrow.

Its not just that. As hard as he's tried to kill it, The Tonight Show still carries a great deal of cache, even though Carson's been gone for over a decade.

B.L.A.M., Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

America is a very middlebrow country, and Leno plays to those sensibilities very well.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:42 (eighteen years ago)

so let me get this straight

lol

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

Alright, I'm just gonna go ahead and confess that I pretty much FUCKING LOVE his stupid bit where he shows you silly and naughty typos from small town newspapers and grocery store circulars.

but yeah he sux mostly. letterman is the don.

Conan's parody of this bit demolishes it, though.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 March 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

yeah but anytime someone named Biggs is marrying someone named Wang, Jay Leno will be there

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

People lay on the midwest a lot, but I guarantee 90% of Leno's audience lives in California. Never have I met more middlebrow mediocrity than a Californian.

I remember on a trip abroad it was a bunch of us from the NYC metro area and a bunch of kids from California. We were cracking wise and being sarcastic asses, as is our native culture, and we got this huge lecture from the California kids about being "nice, man. you gotta tone down man and be nicer. you're all so mean and it's just so ugly", in that neutered, breathy, vacant West Coast accent. Sanctimonious bastards.

Then they turn around and make fun of our accents. Bastards.

Ladies and gentlemen

nabisco, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

Does anybody remember Leno's early years, when his style was kind of rock and roll greaser punk? He was like, "yo, ladies". Just a ramblin man. His humor's always been incredibly conservative though.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:34 (eighteen years ago)

ride my greasy, throbbing pole nabisco. My anecdote is solid, rock hard and waiting for you

burt_stanton, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

Good lord, did you grease it up special or is it just always slimy?

nabisco, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

Good lord, you people watch late night comics?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

burt i don't know anyone like the people you met, are they just hippies or what? my god that shit is lazy

tremendoid, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

i wouldve totally gone medieval on those hippies asses with my slimy throbbing pole

jhøshea, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

i watch letterman if i'm up, that's totally same shit different day now but I'm just into what he does. i have watched conan to pass the time but the way people talk about it makes me think i've somehow missed every single good thing that show has ever done

tremendoid, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

Tremendoid, count me in: I too am a big fan of Letterman.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

Conan's become like the guy that can make a lot friends and acquaintances laugh without trying too hard, just based on the memorable moments he's had in the past.

Cunga, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

At 11:30, I'm not quite ready for bed yet, but I'm too lazy to do much else besides turn on the TV. There are worse ways to spend a half hour than watching the first 30 minutes of Conan before brushing my teeth. Good for cuddling time, too, if my girlfriend and I have been off doing separate things earlier in the night.

jaymc, Thursday, 27 March 2008 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

Apparently Phillippe is really uncomfy in the video (which I havent seen) when Leno won't let the 'gay look' stuff go (they'd just shown a clip of RP playing a gay teen on a soap early in his career). But when you're promoting a new movie on Tonight, you don't give the host shit.

I think Leno is personally more OK with teh gays than Letterman (who is visibly nervous anytime homosex comes up in a nonjoke context), but Leno has no problem making them grist for his lame wide-bodied impotent Middle American audience.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 28 March 2008 13:43 (eighteen years ago)

Leno's continual habit of making gays the butts of his jokes.

The Wayward Johnny B, Friday, 28 March 2008 13:45 (eighteen years ago)

after working with Ross The Intern for a few years Leno just thought it was totally normal to ask people for their gayest look.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 28 March 2008 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

Did anyone see the clip? Magic jeans that transport you to a tropical paradise?

RabiesAngentleman, Friday, 28 March 2008 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

It's impossible to convince people that Leno used to be funny (and not worth the effort), but for a time in the 80s he was nearly unfuckwithable.

I have a big soft spot for Ferguson (and his Britney speech was a borderline great television moment), but yeah, wtf.
