"In far too many instances parents directly enable their children's underage drinking -- in essence encouraging them to risk their health and well-being," said acting Surgeon General Steven K. Galson. "Proper parental guidance alone may not be the complete solution to this devastating public health problem -- but it is a critical part."

Gah! The way that news story is written, if any person is under 21 and has tasted alcohol, they are an "underage drinker". This is unutterably stupid and puritanical, as the USA so often is around this sort of thing.

Exactly how is a young person supposed to learn responsible drinking by never actually touching a drop of alcohol? My parents would give me something to drink at home on special occasions (half a glass of wine, weak mixed drinks) from about age fifteen or sixteen onward.

Apparently, this made me an underage drinker who was abetted by his parents who gave him **shock** free alcohol!!
