Did anyone see 'Empire Of The Sun' with N in it last night?

He looked like he weighed more at 12 than he does now. Is this possible? And why did he spend all his scenes looking like he was going to throw up?

Ally C, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

thank you for the txt but i was watching footie, so missed it...

i imagine it was more fun though...

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the football was so bad last night I watched the film, which I thought was poor at first but I grew to like as it went on, I hated that Jamie though, what an irritating cunt, I'm surprised he didn't get punched. Dastoor's performance? A triumph! although he did look a little queasy, but well fed.

chris at home, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wait, what? Is there some legendary child actor appearance in N.'s youth I'm unaware of here? Was he Bale's double? Etc.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yes, he's in empire of the sun as a small boy, and as he's not likely to see this for about 8 hours we can make up all sorts of rubbish ;) football was so bad i retreated to the computer to "look for a job". unfortunately no one on #sinister had one for me...

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

he's the kamikaze pilot who gets shot at the end when cutting Bale's mango.

chris at home, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay, I thought this might be the case (I am no stranger to seeing friends, etc. pop up strangely in films) because at a recent drinx N. told me his dad, an actor, had some pretty impressive, culty character roles. So I deployed my trusty IMDb search facility - normally used to check which films my friends are being techies on - and found Nicholas Dastor present and correct as kiddie thesp. Cool.

suzy, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Checking the cast list, I realise I have seen a film with Ben Stiller in. I know who he is now!

DG, Thursday, 21 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Argh, missed it! Has N. appeared in any other films? What about tv series (accompanying Rod Hull & Emu in the windmill in Emu's World, that kinda thing)? TV Commercials?

MarkH, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

LEAVE ME ALONE

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If I wanted to be left alone I would not be posting to make a thread top of the new answers list.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it IS him!

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma = the Kelvin MacKenzie of ILE.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

LEAVE ME ALONE.

Oh fuck the lot of you, I'm off on holiday. Ha! I have not shown our temp how to use ILE in my absence.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh please do. It would be great if people had ILE temps filling in for them.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Her name is Helen, she seems very nice. However I never give temps my internet password as then it cuts down the overall amount of time Systems think I spend on the net. I am very cunning like that.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought N. was in ET.

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

True story: the other day, a v.confused friend of mine confessed that she had been telling people that I had been up for the role of Luke Skywalker.

Important (to me) point to clear up re: what suzy said above. My E.O.S exploits were nothing to do with my dad being an actor. At least not in the Gwyneth Paltrow sense - no doubt my upbringing/genes led to an interest in acting but no strings were pulled. The casting staff were just going around looking at school plays.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, I thought N. was ET.

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

LEAVE ME ALONE.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It explains why Henry Thomas is a Belle and Sebastian fan, doesn't it?

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick, I wasn't suggesting nepotism at all, don't worry. Note to those who haven't met N.: he is so NOT a luvvie.

suzy, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Apart from being fey, narcissistic and arrogant.

(This is probably the point where I should break my no emoticons rule.)

Pete, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There was a rumour for a while that he was lurked on Sinister. Imagine that. ILE has Momus. Sinister has Elliott from ET.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'he was lurked' - new invention of 'lurk' as transitive verb pleases me.

Pete: LEAVE ME ALONE

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anyway, did you get in for BB3?

Graham, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NO.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you wouldn't have wanted to though Nick, you'd have had to miss the entire world cup. Unless they really hated you and kicked you out early of course.

Apparently they have a staircase this year, and the chickens are still in it because the creator of the series demands it.

chris, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

??? Chickens?

Big Brother exposed as front for MASSIVE SANTERIA CELL!

This is news?

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

LEAVE YOURSELF ALONE.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my 'this is news?' directed at Dan, not Pete's interesting info box, btw.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

THIS IS AN ELABORATE LIE IS IT NOT???

Allyzay, Thursday, 15 January 2004 03:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope! And in fact I have learned through ILX that you can see N.'s dad if you ever watch I, Claudius (he plays the guy who organizes the conspiracy to kill Caligula).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 January 2004 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

You know, leave it to RJG to actually post something on N's specially dedicated bulletin board.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 January 2004 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh that is just too good

the baby from three men and a baby, but all growed up (nordicskilla), Thursday, 15 January 2004 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

where is RJG these days?

the baby from three men and a baby, but all growed up (nordicskilla), Thursday, 15 January 2004 03:45 (twenty-two years ago)

He is busy with his company.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to get molded by RJG. (And I know he has an American girlfriend and all but jeez, a ribbon?)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

If you sign up for the newsletter you get a free RJG pen!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

At RJG our competitive edge lies in our in-depth knowledge of the injection molding process from the plastic's point of view

Now that's service!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha Nicole!

the baby from three men and a baby, but all growed up (nordicskilla), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

At RJG our commitment never ends with the sale!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 15 January 2004 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

(hahaha cozen I dare you to Add Photo)

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 15 January 2004 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

'empire of the sun' was the first movie I went to the cinema to watch.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 15 January 2004 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

(hahaha cozen I dare you to Add Photo)

That's the best $35 I ever spent.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 15 January 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha this is the greatest thread ever!!! I cuold use some plastic injections!!

Allyzay, Thursday, 15 January 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

N. once took a lecture I was at in Sheffield Uni and he was ace.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 15 January 2004 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i saw a guy who looked like N. crossing the street in Jersey City a week ago. i am sure that he would've waived back to me had i waived at him.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 15 January 2004 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

You were at that, Chuck!? Was I really ace? I was shitting bricks just beforehand when Nick Davies was on stage suaving it up and David Shayler was in the front row. Are you a journalist?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 15 January 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

N. once took a lecture I was at in Sheffield Uni and he was ace.

This sentence does not make sense.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 January 2004 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The Canadian guy I shared the stage with is a friend of Fritz's - small world etc.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 15 January 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I got sent there by my Uni 'cause I edited the college paper. I actually use to work at 119 as a secretary and saw you around, but didn't start on ILX till after I left.. funny, eh?

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 15 January 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I suddenly feel like your unintentional stalker.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 15 January 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, so N *gave* the lecture? Surely the British don't call giving a lecture *taking* a lecture, do they??

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 15 January 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Today's schedule:

"N. on the art of advanced loucheness."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 January 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely you mean asshattery?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 January 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

N. and his adoring fans:

http://www.geocities.com/r_gillanders/NCJDANCRJG.txt

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely you mean asshattery?

I must bow to the expert.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I hadn't thought about the US/UK difference in 'take a class/lecture'. I think we do use it to mean 'attended' too, but that's probably just a creeping Americanism.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 16 January 2004 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope you wore RJG's outfit to the lecture, that is one hell of a getup he's got going. RJG where did you get that outfit, I'm going to buy it for my boyfriend. Or for myself, I can't decide.

Allyzay, Friday, 16 January 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

LEAVE ME ALONE

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 January 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I WAS PAYING YOU A COMPLIMENT.

Allyzay, Friday, 16 January 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, how much do you want for the jacket?

Allyzay, Friday, 16 January 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a royal air force jacket. I don't think your boyfriend was ever in the royal air force. thanks for the compliment, though.

: D

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 January 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha no wonder I love the jacket so much. Ally in wanting everyone to wear uniforms shocker! Your post indicates YOU were in the RAF which I doubt. Are you hiding something, a secret military uniform-wearing past? PLEASE SAY YES!!!

Allyzay, Friday, 16 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

my uncle was in the RAF (for real!)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

So was the old rooster in Chicken Run.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 16 January 2004 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet Francis the Mule was in the RAF in at least one of his films.

Allyzay, Friday, 16 January 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

HE REALLY WAS!!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

we're a family of asskickers

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

There really should be a hoboken chicken air force.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, Hoboken DOES need an air force to stop NYers from fucking with us!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.nexternal.com/goldhil/images/745751005439F.jpg

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I am in awe.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly Hoboken needs an air force to protect it from fuck-off gigantic chickens.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

No, the gigantic chickens should comprise the air force.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I fear their chemical weapons of mass destruction.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

And if they're killed in battle, people would end up with huge amounts of tasty roast chicken. It's a win-win situation. Except for the vegans.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ew, roast vegan.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

All I have to say is that even regular sized chickens would make a better air force than the actual denizens of Hoboken.

Allyzay, Friday, 16 January 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yikes.

http://www.ldonline.org/kidzone/showroom/artwork-jpeg/art040.jpg

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 16 January 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I still keep in touch w/ some old RAF buddies, ie. david moore.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 17 January 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

All I have to say is that even regular sized chickens would make a better air force than the actual denizens of Hoboken.

But as El Diablo notes, if regular Hoboken citizens were called into duty and gave their lives, do they taste good when roasted? Or should they be batter-dipped?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 January 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG, I fear that when I give Ally C my old No 2 jacket he will outrank you, and furthermore, you will have to salute him!

Mooro (Mooro), Saturday, 17 January 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

They're not kidding, he really does kind of look like he's trying not to vomit the whole time.

TOMBOT, Sunday, 18 January 2004 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Really I'm pretty sure Nick stopped eating after he was in Empire of the Sun. I'd never seen it before, though, so thank you for making me see it, N. What was Malkovich like???

Allyzay, Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

But as El Diablo notes, if regular Hoboken citizens were called into duty and gave their lives, do they taste good when roasted? Or should they be batter-dipped?

either way, i'd prob. taste like shit.

SchEissebär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:37 (twenty-two years ago)

dunno about chicken, but they have one AWFUL cheese-steak joint here.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:41 (twenty-two years ago)

has N. ever had a cheese-steak, i wonder?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

A picture of N. staring at a cheesesteak would rival Gareth contemplating the phone.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Malkovich was totally as you'd expect him to be - aloof and superior. It could have been that he was just trying to stay in character.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 18 January 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

if n. ate a cheesesteak wouldn't it be like when garfield went on the diet and then ate one potato chip and his belly poofed back out again?

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

No, because Garfield is shit.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

your logic is faulty.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

your slip is showing.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

fresh!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)
