I....don't know. I mean, I think it comes down to the James Brown Truism of Fighting: Lack of inhibition or hesitation can often overcome training and learned skill in combat.

Or, as originally formulate, I don't know karate, but I know ca-razy! Yes you do!!!

So, with that in mind, I think I have to go Anton. Both of these guys are pretty imposing physically - it looked like Ledger was actually in better shape than during Brokeback Mountain, and Bardem is a big, athletic dude. Both clearly know how to kill in improvised ways - pencils, handcuffs. Both are also utterly ruthless when it comes to gunplay. And, in their own ways, they are both CRAZY.

But I think I have to give it to Anton, for this simple fact: If Batman had NO compunction about killing, the Joker would have died very early on in the movie. Anton is a widely-feared and well-compensated hit man, who CLEARLY has NO problem with killing.

So, sorry Jokes. Anton pwns.

what's so scary about him? he's a fairly competent psychopath. he kills people, that's it. he had to have a tracking device to find that money, and moss almost got him.

Now, having never really shown his ability to function in a COLLABORATIVE enviornment, Jokes may bring the pain when accomplices are involved.

he's not scarier, in terms of who i'd rather have unleashed on the planet, he'd just win in a fight, which is always the more interesting question

and at least the joker's sadism seemed to stem from some kind of severe emotional distress, chigurh was truly alien thus more terrifying

the original question was who's the scariest, craziest, most powerful, most memorable of the two. chigurh is a nobody.

thing is shug's robotic sociopathy actually makes him -more- indentifiable & real & thus scarier & more memorable - the joker is a psychopathic supervillain who basically comes across as a total badass
