jess, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

there's an important football match going on...come and play or watch!

jel --, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pretend you're me and do my job. Hell, you can do it till I retire!

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Here in Tokyo it's already tomorrow. I have a blind date with a ballet dancer on some station up the Chuo Line. You can come and be the gooseberry if you like.

Momus, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm going to a double bill of show me love and together at some cinema in hackney, followed by the pub. which sounds like a good plan.

if i wasn't doing that i'd read one of the 100s of books i have lined up, i guess. so cinema or pub or reading are my suggestions.

Make paper planes

Graham, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Eat some cheese. It's both tasty and nutritious.

RickyT, Sunday, 24 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There's some emmenthal in my fridge, I've been looking at it warily for a week or so. I'm not sure if it's a pick up and eat cheese really.

jel --, Sunday, 24 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

so, i know you're wondering what i did

i should have taken you up on yr suggestions, because it wasn't great, mainly taken up with house type things. spoke to ed, who suggested i look for a house with a french-canadian model he knows. caught the bus up to walthamstow with a housemate to scope out the area. felt like hertfordshire/essex and not london, did not like it. walked down to whipps cross and scoped out some leyton but wasn't into that either.

got buses back home, and bumped into nickdastoor on the 106 on his way to ilx football (for a big place you don't half bump into people a lot in london). then went to look at a place in another houseshare at highbury corner but it was too small. downloaded crappy 80s pop and crappy 70s CTI type shit and basement jaxx essential mix. drank beer and prepared ourselves for meeting with landlord tonight.

whereabouts in thbe Stow did you look Gareth, it's never felt like Hertfordshire to me, I love it.

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

from blackhorse rd (where friend J lives) along to wood st on 123 tottenham-ilford bus, walk down wood st as far as whipps cross, and then down to bakers arms.

gareth, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hmmm, from my reckoning you skirted Walthamstow itself, you should have gone into the village bit right in the middle, it's lovely there and there seems to be plenty of places to rent.

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't give up on the Stow. Mind you, he reminded me yesterday that he works in Osterley for heaven's sake. I think even I might be tempted to relent on my West London prejudice if I had to travel out there.

N., Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Osterley? is that, like, zone 12 or summat?

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's like Heathrow terminal 6

N., Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

home station=arsenal

gareth, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gareth, we go the same number of stops, but I have a change, how long does it take tyou to get to work, about an hour and a quarter?

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the actual tube journey is about 50 mins, but it takes about 1 hr 10 to 1 hr 15 in total, yeah

gareth, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

same as me, good for reading etc but ultimately a bit of a drag.

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heathrow used to be zone 4. WTF?

Ed, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When they only had four zones?

RickyT, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

they kind of still do if you travel by bus

gareth, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That would be fun. Bus to Osterley. Ever tried it?

N., Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

there's a bus that goes to Heathrow from Greenford so it's probably do-able from central London. 18 from Charing x (unless my memory is shot) to Wembley central. 92 from Wembley Central to Greenford, then the other one from there to Heathrow /Osterley (I think it's the 152 but don't hold me to it)

chris, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Osterly is only one stop from my local station. As I recall, Osterly has absolutely no shops or anything other than a very large park, which is quite 'nice'. I mean it's better than Feltham, I got the bus from Feltham to Hatton Cross once, the grottiest scenary ever! But, still I love West London. I think I might start supporting Brentford being the local team and all.

Gareth you could move to Hammersmith or Barons Court area, you'll still be near central London.

Meanwhile, up the Chuo line, my date was pleasant but not fanciable. We went to the Yasukuni shrine, the one Koizumi got so much stick for visiting. It was a little chilly but beautifully sunny, and the cherry blossom and women in kimonos made the scene -- pines, temples, ornamental ponds -- somewhat gorgeous. After that we went to Tokyo Jam at Opera City, the Tokyo version of the exhibition they had at the Barbican last year. The zingy mix of commercial and fine art was energising. I saw the Cornelius 'Point of View Point' video for the first time. The whole show gave me a new appreciation of the ever-mutating richness and craziness of commercial forms. Then it was off to Nishi Okubo, Tokyo's buzzy Asian immigrant district, for some cheap Korean eats.

Momus, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeh yeh, momus, thats all very well, but i was living in bohemian squalor and listening to Bob James, and marvelling how the myriad shapes of easyjazz simultaneously evoke and recind the nature of capitalist society and being a winner, thereby rendering the bourgeois nature of 'selling out' irrelevant, by co-opting bourgeois aesthetics to a fucking niiiicce 'not aspirationalist cuz i already got it' yet keeping counter-cilture props type vibe. man, radiohead and cornelius got lots to learn from Mr Bob James, y;know.

jel - it has a W postcode=i will not live in it!

however, i do need to find somewhere.
