my favourite mug is half dark brown and half pale brown. its a very nice cup and appeals to my overwhelming love of the colour brown, it was a present from someone special. i would be upset if it got broken

Liverpool - European cup winners 1981, I still use it but I'd be heartbroken if it got bust. Same goes for my pint pot commemorating Chesterfield's glorious cup-run of 1997.

Two of my favourites got broken by builders (they raid your cupboards and use you mugs!!!!)...my Legoland one and my other with a bumblebee on it. *sigh*

I have a moocow mug as seen on "this life" (not the reason i have it). Also a 50 years of Whipsnade Zoo 1931-1981 mug that is impossible to clean. (What revolution in mug manufacture technology made mugs easier to clean. Whatever, it was some time in the last 20 years.)

My mug is one of those with an art deco flower pattern that slopes outwards. It has a triangular handle and is made of very thin china. I bought it years ago to give to my stepmother as a part of her birthday present, but got her something else in the end and ended up keeping it.

Anna, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My flatmate broke one of my Spurs mugs and was frightened to admit to it. At work I have my Ho Chi Minh mug but that goes walkabouts quite a lot.

Jonnie, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Diluted bleach will get all stains from the botttom of your mugs Alan. Just rinse them properly afterwards.

i have quite a few mugs with MILITANT VEGAN SLOGANS on them, but the best ones are the big ones. i need a LOT of tea in the mornings.

katie, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a Human League in Outer Space (Viz panels with the League playing Don't You Want Me on another planet) mug which nobody else is allowed to drink from, and two Shinto Temple Cat mugs which everyone is allowed to use.

suzy, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My current mug at work is dark blue with gold stripes and it was a present from WENDY who has LEFT NOW and this makes me sad. I think my best mug is one I got from a charity shop which sa 'I [HEART] America' on it. It makes me larff. Most of my mugs are from EASTER EGGS and haf Creme Eggs/Pudsey Bear on 'em. I love my MINI EGGS mug. Mmmm, thank gawd for Easter eggZoR.

Sarah, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

bleach i know. (and it's the whole inside of the mug, not just the base.) Crucial to mention Tea or Coffee. Me = tea. Strong AND milky (not a contradiction)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

An old RAF one, its about a pint in capacity and chunky. I reaaly want and American Diner style one, really thick sides, hourglass shape.

Ed, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like my Real Sociedad mug best.

PM, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a tiny teacup my flatmate found in a junkshop. Malamine, made in Japan, printed with gaily-painted protomanga animals. i like the mousie bestest.

petra jane, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i used to have a opizza hut disney beast mug that was made outta plastc, and i'd drink my coffee out of it for years and hardly ever wash it, until one day i did wash it and sicovered that the black stuff i thought was coffee crud was actually little bits of plastic cup...

Queen G, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my favorite mug has salt lake city on it . ( The captial and the lake )

anthony, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, I have a Belle and Sebastian "commemorate the enrolment of Mick Cooke 1998" mug, but I can't like it that much as I keep my pens in it. My favourite real mug is my Archibald the Koala* mug, which is quite small and therefore good for someone with irritating caffeine intolerance. I also have a gooey mug my ex gave me which has fond memories attached.

*a surprsingly wordy and unusual French animation about a group of badgers and koalas who live together on an island, which I script edited a few years ago. It's great, and occasionally repeated on CITV.

Mark C, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like my Cat mug with its "Keep your paws off my mug" line. It's nice and big.

Evangeline, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Don't Mess With Texas"

Tracer Hand, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I broke one of Hank's best tiki mugs. but I replaced it with a similar one at christmas.

Samantha, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had a fave mug once... it was plastic with a big base and had Stabila (levels) on the side. The ol' roof of the car routine befell it, I'm afraid.

Ron, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've got a couple of mugs from the 1992 Tolkien centenary. I would.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a v.cool Spice Girls mug which has a picture of the Spices and the slogan GIRL POWER in big pink writing. Heh heh I think that when I was living in Manchester, it was this which first made my flatmates think that I was gay.

jamesmichaelward, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My favourite mug is the one I bought for my girlfriend. It says 'I Love Snooker' on it.

Ally C, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a lovely red 'Spillers Records of Cardiff - The World's Oldest Record Shop' mug. I think they sell them for a couple of quid but I got mine when they were giving them away if you spent over £30.

Dr. C, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had a fabulous Laughing Cow mug that changed colour when you put hot water in it. Sadly studentdom has robbed me of this artefact.

Graham, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My favourite is my Jonathan Whiskey mug that I got from Norman Records as a Christmas pressy for being a good customer. Second favourite is this huge coffee mug that ahs "Kronik Skizofrenya" emblazoned across it. It was a bit of an in-joke with the workmates that gave it to me.

electric sound of jim, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't have a favourite mug. I'm an equal opportunity mug employer.

Kim, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My fab friend Freddie gave me a mug with the ubiquitous-in-the-80's image of the red lips in three different degrees of openess... you know the one? I imagine they are whispering the word "Fiorucci"...

Sean, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my favourite mug is a white one with different sorts of boats depicted on it in a linear sort of style. I have even talked about it on this forum before, I hope this doesn't cause me to seem like some sort of mug-psycho.

rainy, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

mugs are the watches of the finger world

mark s, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

mine are white and green and have pink flowers. i like them because i know where they have been. i don't trust other peoples mugs.

di, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You might say that I'm a 'mug slut'.

My favorite:

Bride and Groom pugs in bed of roses. It's totally ridiculous and kitschy and I love it.

ENBB, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

Oof. One day I'll learn.

I was given this mug by my manager who told me it was the SLACK TROPHY, apparently it's been gifted around within the company for years. I don't really want to give it up when I leave, tho.

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

"Mickey Mouse Today - 1980" mug bought at Pizza Hut in 1980.

i have a Mickey Mouse mug with images of MM 1928-1955 that a v v good friend gave me in the mid-80s. i don't even really like mickey mouse! but it is the perfect size and has total friendship nostalgia priceless value. it is my coffee mug.

i have a large-ish v-ish shaped mug that says "bring it on" in flat blue letters and has a blockbuster logo on the other side. my brother got it free b/c he was renting a lot of video games around the time that movie came out. it is my highly-caffeinated-tea mug.

i have a blue&brown homemade-looking medium-sized mug that i found at salvation army last year. it is my less-caffeinated-or-herbal-tea mug.

there are other mugs, but they are, like, guest mugs. this is all kind of weird, thinking about it.

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

my conan o-brien mug c. 1995 broke a few years ago. i was sad.

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

I have a matte black mug with lots of famous equations on it, and the biggest one is 1+1=2!

I also had a wonderful mug shaped like an owl that my stupid alcoholic former roomie broke. Jesus wept.

i still have two different Queen's Silver Jubilee mugs sitting around at home. i think every kid in the country got one at the time (1977). older than some of youse, no doubt.

i recently dropped my Belle & Sebastian (green) mug. luckily my Spiritualized mug broke its fall. about this time i decided to stop drinking out of expensive, irreplacable mugs and just use the ones that are about 50p each from argos. (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8008468.htm)

favorite mug = one emblazoned with "Dorothy" on it. when i first started sleeping over towga's, before i moved in, we used to get up early so i could go get some coffee on weekend mornings. one weekend i came over and she had gone out and bought a coffee maker (she doesn't drink coffee) and a mug for me. she couldn't find one that said "kevin" so she got me the dorothy mug. it still makes me happy to see it.

most used mug = green ceramic deal with almost cartoonish turkey's on it. i got this at a thrift store for a quarter, it's great to look at, holds a lot of coffee and keeps it warm. A+

other most used = goner records mug. my friends bill and lisa brought it back for me when they played gonerfest III back in september. it was part of a swag bag with a bunch of records and t-shirts they got for me in exchange for watching their dog. of course i didn't tell them that i would have paid them $15 to watch their dog.

i have a ton more mugs that get varying degrees of usage. but since my commute is so damn long i only wind up making coffee on weekends so usually all my mugs are clean and only the three mentioned above get used. for tea i prefer the mugs that came with my dinnerware from crate and barrel.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

Mister Monkey got this Jamie Oliver mug for Christmas, and it's a really good mug. Holds plenty, good handle, pleasing design. However, when I went in to the shop to get another one, I realised that they are all gendered. The boys' ones say "Big Spender" and "Sexy Beast" and similar on them in blue, and the girls' ones say "Bossy Boots" and "Top Totty" and similar in pink. Who the fuck needs a mug to remind them of their own gender? Stupid. So I didn't buy another one.
