my backpack

i was closing the subway last night at around twelve-thirty and someone stole my backpack from where where i set it at the back door for the five minutes before i came out. i have not only lost the beautiful kraftwerk t-shirt i've had since i was fourteen that was pinned to it, the pins named in this thread) and disc five of my philip glass box set, tago mago and also two cds from the nuggets box and a new order cd that belonged to my friend (who was there with me during this so he understands the circumstances thank god), but most crushingly MY PRECIOUS BINDER NOTEBOOK that i've been inseperable with since the start of high school, filled with hundreds of drawings and unfinished mini-comics, letters from friends, wonderful pieces of found art, etc etc etc. we looked all around for over an hour in dumpsters and parking lots but never found it, i'm having to deal with the fact that i'm never going to get it back now and it's killing me. for me it was like linus' blanket only with countless hours of work and creation put into it and the worst thing is whoever stole it won't even get anything out the whole thing, there's no money or valuables in it, i mean i would've much rather whoever it was take my wallet so it least it wouldn't have been just totally pointless suffering like this. i feel completely awful.

yr only consolation will be that karma will fuck them up the booty with the razor dildo sooner or later. cold comfort, i know.

jess, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that sux. what sux worse is that karma WON'T fuck them up the arse, or if it does you won't hear about it.

anthony, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aaagh, that's terrible, Ethan. I know it's not what you're really missing, but I can burn you the missing disks in the Nuggets set if you'd like. Let me know.

Arthur, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sorry about the pack, ethan. I just read in the superheroes thread that you had a comic stapled to your pack. This seems to be a regular type thing. If it's not too painful, I'm giving you the opportunity to reminisce about your pack and all the things you've stapled to it over the years...

Ron, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeah umm sorry i'm really crap with sympathy but yeah i mean it does suck big time. they should be BANNED!

di, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aw, man, Ethan.

A couple of years ago, I had my backpack stolen from my car. Some fucks thought there was stuff of value in it - nothing more than some stupid computer books and a couple months' worth of school notes. I know it's not the same (losing school notes ain't QUITE the same as losing a journal / scrapbook), but I can empathize with the pointlessness of it, the violation, that conflicting sense of anger and confusion, and (most importantly) the sheer stupidity of the thief to steal something that's means SO much more to you than it ever will to anyone else.

I know it's not going to be too consoling to think about it being better that your backpack got stolen instead of someone getting held up (or worse yet, hurt), but there are going to be other mini-comics and pieces of found art and letters from friends. It'll be a while before that hits home, but it's true, and it's worth remembering that.

grrr! that makes me very angry. i am sorry.

Maria, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

we'll huntem down and garottem with yr backpack strap!

once someone looked through my bag, found 4 newly-purchased cds, left the beach boys, left boney m, left public enemy, but stole teenage fanclub. THIEVES ARE STUPID.

GRR, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude. That really sucks. I hope they get ptomaine poisoning.

Dan Perry, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

More cold comfort: sometimes a forced break from the past pushes your thinking forward. Still, I hope it turns up for you.

bnw, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That makes me feel like busting heads. Sorry, Ethan.

Dare, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

not nice. sympathy. something similar, tho not on such a hyowg scale happened to me a couple of years ago. When the ILE Golem has been finished, returning the backpack will be its first task :-/

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm sorry Ethan. Note to all: Don't carry sentimental stuff around with you!! I once had a dayrunner stolen in a Fiesta parking lot that besides having phone numbers of everyone I had ever met since high school, credit cards and driver's license had a sentimental collection of ticket stubs and backstage passes. i was very sad but learned my lesson. *sniff*

Samantha, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Shit, thats bad. Sorry Ethan.

Sarah, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ethan, that's just fucking terrible. Try stick posters up around Subway if they'll let ya, you never know. NB: Get another binder notebook and begin filling it immediately.

Mitch Lastnamewithhelb, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Truly lame...sorry to hear this, man. I can't even imagine what it must be like. I hope it turn up somehow.
