bags and packs and things

Bored of my backpack, I bought a Timbuk2 messenger bag a couple weeks ago. I do know that these are about a thousand years out of style by now, so my question for the ILE trendsetters is: should I be ashamed to wear it and continue with the ratty old backpack or should I just wear the damned messenger bag and ignore the nasty smirks I imagine directed my way in the halls?
Oh, and better yet, if I were, theoretically, wanting to try to keep up with the rest of the world, what bag would I be getting right about now?

wear the messenger bag and put un-emolike shit all over it to prove you are hardcore and then mail me your old ratty backpack please.

Actually, you should cover the messenger bag with Lego porn.

Or radiohead cripple-porn if I could find any.

If you wear a messenger bag over one shoulder every day, you will end up crippled. But at least you won't be Radiohead ahh hahaha hahaha

Keep the ratty backpack, dude. They last longer than the trendy ones....plus retro IS the fashionistas' mode of choice this year...

three years pass...
I'm taking over this thread.

So I need a camera bag to hold a small digicam, ~6 AA batteries, a usb mini cable and a tiny battery charger. I'd like something that is heavily padded and doesn't look like a camera bag. I want to be able to toss this bag in my messanger bag and not worry about my camera getting banged up on the subway. Funky pattern/fabric would be cool. I like the little padded bag I carry my weed-pipe in...

Any thoughts on places in NYC to look for something like this?
