Another one gone.

I knew very little of Moore's sixties and seventies UK work -- growing up I just knew him for things like 10, Wholly Moses and Arthur, and after that period he became more famous for being famous than anything else, at least stateside. I will always remember him for his hosting It's About Time, a brief but worthy documentary done around the time of Cosmos, I think, about the nature of time and physics. Special cameo appearance by Isaac Asimov!

Dammit Ned, I thought I had a scoop. Arthur was hideous, poor guy.

Samantha, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's so nice of them to throw in the tenuously-relevant photo of Bo Derek: "Weep ... sob ... mmmm, will you look at that."

A sad loss, though not exactly unexpected - he had been very ill for some time. If you've never heard the Derek & Clive albums or seen what remains of "Not Only... But Also..." you've really missed out. Try taking a look here - http://www.phespirit.i nfo/derekandclive/ - pisses all over his wretched film work.

Chris Lyons, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

also his music - buy the Bedazzled soundtrack

michael, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My parents have a book of "Beyond the Fringe" scripts. In the middle there's a bunch of black and white photographs that mystified me when I was young, because my little childe brane couldn't make the connection between the WORDS in the book and the PIX. But it was clear just from the latter that Dudley was the silliest of them all.

Tracer hand, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, you should check out the original Bedazzled if you haven't seen it yet. Decidedly non-wretched.

nickn, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, I'm sad. And I second the recommendations for Bedazzled, the film and the soundtrack.

I really want those Derek and Clive albums.

Arthur He Does As He Pleases., Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Spike Milligan, John Thaw, George Harrison and now Dudley Moore.

I must be getting older.

I hope Pete and Dud are having a pint or 20 in heaven.

re: Derek and Clive - they'd been reissued on CD i think, and the LPs turn up occasionally for a quid. Ad Nauseum is good, and Come Again has it's moments

michael, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Come Again is classic in the extreme..

Rasberry Jam.... up the arse

Just heard this on the radio, and how sad. Ned: "Bedazzled" makes me piss myself laughing-- GOD is it funny, and groundbreaking. (Other Cook/Moore stuff nearly as good.) And the Bedazzled soundtrack: there's something to the "Love Me"/"I'm Self Contained" disjunct that cuts right to the core of pop music.

I wonder if he regretted Arthur 2: On the Rocks to the very end?

CLIVE: I heard that, er, George Stit had, er, moved away from, er, the, er, the Willesden area and, er, gone up, er, round Chadwell Heath.
DEREK: Cancer?
CLIVE: Yeah.
DEREK: Tch. ..... Oh my ..... It's funny you should say that 'cause you remember Enid? Who used to, erm, live across the road at number 104?
CLIVE: Yeah, just next to 105.
DEREK: Right.
CLIVE: Mmm.
DEREK: She's now working at the United Dairies down Green Lane.
CLIVE: What, cancer?
DEREK: Yeah.
CLIVE: Tch, Christ. You remember the Nolan twins?
DEREK: Ohhh, yeah, .....
CLIVE: Fifi? F-Fifi Nolan, .....
DEREK: Right.
CLIVE: ..... and .....
DEREK: And-, and Ronnie.
CLIVE: And Ronnie Nolan, mmm.
DEREK: Yeah.
CLIVE: They've taken up darts.
DEREK: Cancer?
CLIVE: Yep.
DEREK: Tch.
