is there like a ray of pure light shining on one part of the world and a swarm of angry bees descending on another? that's not fair.

or do good and evil exist within each of us and our lives are nothing but an internal Cage Match?

are some folks just born bad, like they say in the western movies?

is "evil" real or just a cheap way to avoid responsibility? (it wasn't us people who killed all those people in the war, it was evil!)

are moral absolutes inherently wrong or are they neccessary to keep us from eating each other and inbreeding?

If you've ever tried to quit smoking you'll know why the concept of "devils" exists.

that's about it... they're just sensible rules for co-existence... not absolute, but common sense.

I think good/evil aren't things in themselves, but ways of describing ideas or actions. So to say "evil did it" is a nonsense, and to say "Osamar bin Laden is evil" is lazy and misleading - it avoids saying which of his ideas and/or actions are evil and why.

Just checked my blue book and yes, I was enrolled in a class called Phil 420: Ethical Theory 2. Problem is, next to that entry is a 'Z' meaning 'failure due to non-attendance' which explains why I must stop my comment here as I apparently know nothing about this topic.
