I'm halfway through and enjoying it immensely. Is the new one as good? Are there any other British hardboiled writers I should be aware of?

I've just read "He kills coppers" but havent read the long firm. It was rather wonderful. It reminded me somewhat of David Peace's (as yet unfinished) Red Riding quartet 1974, 1977, 1980 .... which i can't recommend highly enough

i liked the long firm better - it seemed as if arnott had less to prove; coppers was bigger, but not better - a little repetitious and nowhere near as enjoyable, aand i really enjoyed the mixing in of theory in the long firm that was absent in coppers.

he was quite nice when I interviewed him - but i don't think the long firm means the same thing over there as it does down here.
