What the hell is up with "The Soloist"?

Movies about brilliant homeless musicians suffering from mental illness and starring Morton Downey Jr and Jamie Foxx aren't supposed to open in April!

Also, NPR, will you please shut up about this show? PLEASE?

It was originally supposed to be released last Thanksgiving, in time for Oscar contention. They might've delayed it because Downey was getting the supporting actor nomination for Tropic Thunder, or they just didn't think the finished product would be in the running.

The reviews I've read so far point to the POS. It looks like Foxx violated Downey's own rule from Tropic Thunder, "never go full retard".

The original preview that ran when it was still supposed to open in time to qualify for this year's Oscars was some sort of work of art. It was maybe the most fake-looking trailer I'd seen since the one for Caramel.

Looks like pure schmaltz to me.

seriously i thought it was a parody trailer and i kept waiting for the punchline and then it just ended and i sat there like

argh i have been listening to npr more than usual this week and they say something about it on morning edition or all things considered EVERY day. it doesn't sound like even it'll be good at all! i mean not that npr usually has the best taste in movies but whyyyyyy

It's like a trilogy of Magical Negro horseshit.

I really quite enjoyed this film. "Full retard" is very different then schizo but I have worked with mental hospital patients before and probably understand Jamie's character better than some people. I wanted to tell Robert how to handle Jamie's character during the movie but I suppose he didn't get to see all of Nathaniel's problems the way the audience did.

I love the passion that Nathaniel has.

Also, the ending of this movie was more European style than American. But since it's based on a true story I suppose that will happen. (Americans like happy endings.. ug I cant believe I just typed that)
