Why are Philadelphia skies clouded with smoke from Quebec?

I came out of work yesterday and immediately noticed an odd odor in the air, as well as some haziness. I asked someone on the street if he knew if there'd been a fire anywhere in the area, but he had not heard. When I got home, I checked an online weather site which usually provides detailed information. Smoke from forest fires in Quebec? I never would have expected that.

Yeah, it's the same shit in NYC. The air is fucking hazed and polluted up on the UWS almost as bad as it was after 9/11 - but it's coming in from Quebec. All I can say is what the fuck, how a forest fire in Canada comes down to NYC and Philly is beyond my comprehension. You'd think Quebec was the next town over from how much pollution is going on.

yeah, here in montreal we woke up to this very odd yellow colour. everything seemed like it was being viewed through some sort of camera filter or something. the craziest part is that the haze covered the sun just enough so that you could look directly at it. it was bright orange and seemd much smaller than it should have.
