the police academy films were classics of their time.why then, with the current love of all things retro and a lack of genuinly funny films these days(excluding any film portraying vinny jones as a serious actor) cant steve guttenberg,g.w.bailley ,bubba smith and the rest of the recruits come back for one final fling on the big screen? ps. i know other remakes have been obscenly bad,ie.blues bros 2000 etc

Is it true that the chap who made all the noises in the police acadamy films made an album or have I been lied to?

Davel, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw that guy recently on a program about video games, apparently he earns his living making goofy noises for all kinds of video games.

Nicole, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He also did the alien sound-effects on the Men In Black ride at Universal Studios.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice to know he was able to live down the tragedy of appearing in Spaceballs.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Spaceballs is classic!

Kris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bad Ned! No cookies for you!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll grant you John Candy and Rick Moranis. Beyond that, dear heavens.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the police academy films were classics of their time

Am I really alone in seeing something dramatically wrong with that statement?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't believe you people! Here we have a person praying for a new Police Academy movie and you're not DOING anything. You're just standing there! After him with your pitchforks and torches!!! Before he destroys us all!!

lawrence kansas, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Me and Martin are on the case!

lawrence kansas, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Taking sides: a new Police Academy movie vs a new Jason movie.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never seen a bad Police Academy movie (I haven't seen all of them though) and I've never seen a good Friday the 13th (ditto).

Kris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

at last a slightly positive response but i cant believe im alone in wanting a new chapter in the genre, maybe an academy reunion,or a new class for 2002.i challenge anyone to watch any of 1 - 4 without ejaculating as a result of laughter

tom holtam-capricorn, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sounds like a rather sticky situation.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kris, check out Jason X if you haven't already. It's a lot funnier than the rest of them and more of a horror parody. I'm no horror fan by any stretch, but I thought it was hilarious. So of course, my vote would be for another Jason movie.

And before I forget, Spaceballs is great, Ned you're crazy, etc.

Vinnie, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I WILL TAKE NO MORE ABUSE ON THIS POINT. Accept my disdain or cry into the void.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Police Academy is quite possibly the best film ever made (with exception to Police Academy4), how it was over looked by the oscars is a truely immense crime to cinematograph

dr simon barber, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so there was more than one police academy movie? how unfortunate

Ron, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why the hell was the new Halloween movie released in July?

Kris, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael Winslow is the sound FX guy. I think he's on the corporate/casino circuit now. He deserves to be more famous.

bryan, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

In reply to Ron, have you been living with your head up your ass for the last 18 years. I suggest you go to your local video outlet and get some culture NUMBNUT

six years pass...

I stand by my Spaceballs disdain. Anyway, the subject at hand:

Plans were in motion for an eighth Police Academy film to be released in 2007 after a decade of absence. Says series creator Paul Maslansky: "I felt it was time to start again. I saw that Starsky & Hutch and a number of other revivals were doing really well. Police Academy has such a great history, so I thought, 'Why not?'" Most of the main cast members were due to return, except David Graf (Eugene Tackleberry) and Billie Bird (Lois Feldman), both of whom had died, and Tab Thacker, who had lost his legs to diabetes and died as well. Hugh Wilson was slated to direct.

Leslie Easterbrook and Marion Ramsey mentioned that filming for the next Police Academy film was due to start shooting in summer 2006 for a release in 2007. The film was shelved in October 2006. Leslie Easterbrook did mention that there was still hope for a direct to DVD sequel. She added that while Warner Bros. wanted to do one, they wanted a producer to get independent financing. In May 2008 Michael Winslow replied to a question about a possible new Police Academy film: “Anything’s possible. You’ve got to hope for Paul Maslansky and those folks over there to put it together. It’s up to them. It would be great to see everyone again."

In a radio interview on November 26, 2008 with Colin Paterson for BBC Five Live's Simon Mayo show, Steve Guttenberg confirmed that 8 was still in development and that he was working on the script with Warner Bros.. Guttenberg is slated to direct the film,[11] and stated that all of the cast from the previous installments (except for the deceased David Graf, Billie Bird, and Tab Thacker) would return to reprise their roles.

except David Graf (Eugene Tackleberry) and Billie Bird (Lois Feldman), both of whom had died, and Tab Thacker, who had lost his legs to diabetes and died as well

haha good god, why do they have to rub it in with the diabetes, like "tab thacker is dead, but even if he weren't he STILL couldn't be in it, because people without legs aren't allowed to be in movies"

nabisco, Monday, 29 June 2009 18:02 (sixteen years ago)
