I'm saying one of the barflies in The Iceman Cometh.

And who are the Yankees? (Richard Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross) the Cubs? the Braves? the Twins? the Expos?

J Blount, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And what YEAR? This could go on and on. I've thought about it and my scientific conclusion is that they're Martin Mirkheim from Search and Destroy by Howard Korder. Though they could almost BE the storyteller in Iceman - i.e. they're quite convincing for awhile.

The Cubs, by their Job-like nature, are the title character in "J.B." by Archibald MacLeish. ("Show me my guilt O God!)

im not much into the theater so i couldn't tell you who they are. But it would have to be a character that implodes.

Chris, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

baseball= theater of the absurd.

I think the Yankees would be Sweeney Todd.

felicity, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

or Faust.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

please let it be Marlowe's Dr. Faustus if so.

Juror #3.

Joe, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

from 12 Angry Men?

J Blount, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup. Could have the odds in their favor 11-1, and still fuck it up. Let's not forget the juror's despairing rage towards the end of the play--"damn kids ya work yer whole stinkin' life!!!!" :)

one month passes...
J. Blount and Kris, what's gotten into your A's . . . AGAIN? (And I thought they were ridiculous last year.) Billy Koch vultures their 20th straight win courtesy of Scott Hatteberg. That's gotta hurt, Bosox nation.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 6 September 2002 06:27 (twenty-three years ago)

The Red Sox would be a character that absolutely sucks fucking ass.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 6 September 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah but the Pats just won the Super Bowl so I don't feel so bad for you. Whereas the Bears, on the other hand, now have the easily-shattered Chris "Crystal Chandelier" Chandler.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 6 September 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Jim Miller is going to lead you guys to the promise land. Hey you never know, look at Tom Brady...second stringer wins the MVP.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 6 September 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Sox would be someone who dies shortly after intermission. My resilient Cardinals would be he Hamlet this season.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 6 September 2002 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

The A's have been absurdly lucky; they're not really this good and until the Royals they seemed to be playing teams that had completely given up. The games have been lotsa fun though. I don't understand why Boston can't keep the fucking Yankees out of the playoffs just ONCE! I'm beginning to hate Boston more than the Yankees.

Kris (aqueduct), Friday, 6 September 2002 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Kris forgets one thing: Miguel 'MVP' Tejada!

James Blount, Friday, 6 September 2002 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

EMM VEE PEE! EMM VEE PEE!

Kris (aqueduct), Friday, 6 September 2002 16:42 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah bnw, despite the Cards' knack for breaking all of their starting pitchers (how many starters have they been through this year?). Benes-on-Benes action today with the Cubs!

felicity (felicity), Friday, 6 September 2002 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm beginning to hate Boston more than the Yankees.

Welcome to my world, Kris.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 September 2002 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

"Benes-on-Benes action" - what a disturbing image!

James Blount, Friday, 6 September 2002 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

perhaps you'd prefer (Randy) Johnson-on-Mesa action? no thanks.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 6 September 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

les freres Benes are semi-cute, actually.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 6 September 2002 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

FOUL! On both counts, actually.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 6 September 2002 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Randy Johnson on David Eckstein action!

James Blount, Friday, 6 September 2002 19:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony to thread!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 September 2002 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

two weeks pass...
nobody hates the Cardinals more than I do, but the seeing them clinch the Central last night made me feel like the grinch looking down on Whoville ==> my heart grew. They've had a rough year.

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 21 September 2002 08:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I'm rooting for the A's all the way, but part of me would really like to see the Cards win it.
