Space Ghost, Coast To Coast: Classic or Dud?

This show is damn funny. (It's screened on the Adult Swim programme on Cartoon Network, in most places) Do you agree? Do you even know what I'm talking about?

CLASSIC! This is one of the best cartoons ever made, IMO. We don't get to see much of it here in the UK, tho (In fact Cartoon Network UK doesn't even have a proper Adult Swim segment!). My favourite episode is probably "Bo Bo Kitty".

Christopher Lyons, Saturday, 27 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

's quite great (though I prefer the other of the SG-esque Adult Swim cartoons - The Brak Show, Sealab 2021 & Aqua Teen Hunger Force). Zorak r0xx0r.

Ess Kay, Saturday, 27 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh god, Adult Swim is the best. Sealab has become my favorite, with Aqua Teen and Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law as close seconds.

Jordan, Saturday, 27 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic - Sonny Sharrock's 'Space Ghost Coast to Coast' mini-alb (actually it ain't THAT classic, but it is one of the all-time great 'WTF??' cds...)

People, please explain the appeal of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I love the rest of the Adult Swim lineup but this show just seems mind- numbingly dull.

Nicole, Sunday, 28 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Absolute classic. The Thom Yorke/Bjork one is pure genius.

Mark, Sunday, 28 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic. Along with Mr. Show, the best American comedy show of the last decade or so.

bryan, Sunday, 28 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I agree Nicole - while I don't think it's terrible, Aqua Teen certainly pales in comparison to SGCTC, Sealab, Home Movies, basically everything else on Adult Swim.

A BRILLIANT SHOW. very difficult to see here in UK, even on cartoon network it's scheduled all over the place. there is a run of them written by Evan Dorkin (Milk and Cheese) that I particularly like

Alan T, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did he now? A Milk and Cheese cartoon is the logical next step. No ska theme, though. ;-)

When I first encountered the Meatwad character I was duly bemused.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A Milk and Cheese show would rule my life to bits.

RickyT, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i love the strip, but you think it could sustain an animation lasting longer than 30 seconds? mmm

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pavement have a song about SPACE GHOST and it's grebt! However I've never seen this 'programme' (is it a programme then) so haf no other comment to make.

Sarah, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah you would LOVE it! the guests appear as talking heads on a TV set hovering above the guest's chair on a typical talkshow set (Space Ghost is behind the desk), his sidekick - is it Zorak or the other one (even THEY get confused about each other's names on a regular basis), and his enemy/talkshow director (or something?) who's on a different space station or planet. i mean it's a weird show. i only see it at 2 in the morning or so.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

uh, and everything's animated, in a bad 50s style. except for the guests. supposedly SG was an actual cartoon serial back in the day? but this "fact" could surely be a part of their complex fictional mythology.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I loved the orig. cartoon which was "Space Ghost & Friends" and also had cavemen with a giant pet amoeba.

Sterling Clover, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

supposedly SG was an actual cartoon serial back in the day?

Youngster. ;-) Now heed your elders -- there was an actual straight up Space Ghost cartoon, which I saw on TV when small and wee. It was pretty bad.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is funny! Sure, it isn't quite up to Sealab standards, but for godsakes, the MOON MEN episodes!

Jordan, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If ever there was a thread deserving of "classic or CLASSIC?" it be this one.

bnw, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The one where Bjork is his wife and he keeps trying to pawn her off on Thom Yorke is the BOMB.

And Aqua Teen Hunger Force rules the world, even though I only seen it once, because of those Moon Men. Their laser beam technology kicks it, and the line "We do not listen to people we do not like" is classic.

Ally, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet it's not as good as the late lamented

THE ARRRRRRGH! IT'S MISTER HELL SHOW!

Sarah, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

not only was it real, but all the animations are taken from the original show. hence the repeated movements and strange group shots.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eight years pass...

classic all the way. even his slightest movement makes me laugh. LOVE those silence moments.
