Character analysis, classic or dud?

It seems that whenever someone analysizes or critisizes someone "character", they end up appearing mean spirited and/or hypocritical. But, how can we resist? The pondering of the human psyche is the most endlessly interesting pursuit. It's bottomless depths draw us like moth to flames! More fuitless and addicting than trying "to catch 'em all"? Can we resist the

I'm a helpless character analyser and I've often felt the desire to strangle people when I've attempted to engage in a conversation about someone's family and they've held back on the insights. What's up with that? It's always an attempt to like someone more by understanding them, so thinking that you're withholding on some kind of 'moral' ground is a bit dubious. Are people really so lacking in curiousity about psychology? And, just to make a ridiculous generalisation, it's usually boys who can't come up with the insights. The degree of frustration I feel when I'm talking to people who won't 'go there' on character analysis is similar to the frustration I feel when people have a glass of wine in front of them and drink it slowly: a famous author once said that in that situation, they feel like smashing the glass in the person's face and saying 'drink it!' That's how I feel about character analysis - drink it!!!!

I've been impersonated! EXCELLENT!

Maryanne, I understand your frusteration. But I feel as though it is not boys, but rather those who might desire romantic entaglement with you. I find that when people don;t want to impress me, the bear all. But the last three girls I've dated have been willing to tell me nothing of their pasts and families. They didn't want to get "hurt".

Do you want to know about my family? They're nuts.............................

"bear all" is a great typo, or possibly deliberate Joycean word play.

I have recently observed my usual character analysis fascination reaches fever pitch a day or 2 before menstruation. God Im interesting. I find I incessantly analyse 'til Ive figured out what I need to know, briefly- how to like someone and appreciate them or how to write them off completely - then I can get really bored with the same patterned responses. I think it can seem nasty and crewell and has to be done in the rite company "if you havent got anything nice to say, come sit next to me"
I find bitchiness in others quite hilarious. Theres also the key indicator of the person going I hate it how *Datmar* is so *FAKE* and really thats a part of themselves they havent reconciled. facsinating :)
