Presenter of BBC2's "Your Money or your Life" Helpful or just annoying and patronising?

MAN, I LOVE THIS GUY.

I forgot all about him. he is second only to fred dibnah in my eyes. that sounds weird, but. he's great! he has such a funny voice+laugh! I don't know, he probably gives good advice too; I don't listen so much to what it is he says. those bowties. that eternal SMILE. yeah, the funny voice+laugh again. I don't want to think about him in real life since it's too easy to imagine he's a big, weird pervert. but on tv!! wonderful!! I'm not sure I've ever sat down deliberately to watch him or, indeed, watched an entire programme with him in. so, yeah, maybe my fondness is partly due to my unfamiliarity with his work. STILL: SUPER.

I have been forced to watch his latest series against my will and I mostly found it incredibly annoying and contrived like a lot of these 'makeover' programmes. You almost suspect that the whole thing is set up with scripts and actors sometimes - I mean why would someone want to go on tv so the whole world can know how much debt they have and how foolish with money they are. Having said all that, I was quite moved by the last episode - the frumpy 40 year old woman from Chester, jilted by a flakey fianceé, who owes £57,000 through unbridled comfort spending. I thought she and Hall genuinely seemed to like each other.

Top Geezer! Good programme, but I find the 'psychological analysis' bits they brought in for this series and the last pretty uncomfortable. I mean, their finances are laid out for all to see how foolish they are, which is bad enough, but delving into relationship issues on top of that is pretty gruesome.

*Alvin is God* in our house. At the very least I think my boyfriend sees him as a sort of surrogate father - I have even caught him with a tear in his eye during some of Alvin's more poignant, caring insights.
