I care, bang goes ur b/day pressie! ;-)

Pinkpanther, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Levis is the only designer/clothing brand that I will actually seek out and wear. (I use the excuse that theirs are the only flairs that will fit my oddly long legs.) But I have never ever bought them in a supermarket or tescos, oh no, that is what Camden Market. What if Camden Market loses the right to sell old Levis for £5 each? Whatever shall I do with my misplaced vanity then?

501's are passe. It's all about 516's and 517's now.

I always think "oh those flares look nice" and then I put them on and they're just like normal jeans. I've been wearing wide ended jeans and trousers for so long that now if I get other ones I think my feet look massive and never wear them.

Ronan, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

im hearing that ronan - im only a size ten but sometimes i look at my feet and im gobsmacked by how huge they are - there not but perception can f with your mind

born clippy, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Levis because they distinguish between "boot cut" - just slightly flared - and flared massive fuckoff elephant bells. I know what you mean about the big feet thing, Ronan. It didn't bother me so much when I was fat, because my whole legs were chunky and massive, but now I'm not fat, I feel funny and unbalanced. I gave my last pair of non-boot-cut Levis to a friend because I thought they made my ankles and calves look funny.

kate, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the folks at Levis have historically been just a bit too kind to people with no asses: they're the only line of jeans I've ever come across that it's not even feasible for me to try on. And it's not like I have a great big ass -- I just have an ass, period, which occasionally creates jean problems when shopping in a very indie-rock slouch-ass kind of neighborhood. (Hur hur I assume the English will have absolutely no personal experience of this.)

nabisco, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nabisco, have you tried other ranges of Levis other than the 501's? Because they have possibly hundreds of different fits. For those with the larger ass than standard skinny indie boy, I suggest 505's or other relaxed fit sort of cut - my old housemate in NYC used to steal my 505's for their bootie-enhancing attributes.

But then again, seeing as how I aspire to be Dirty Dronerock Boy, asslessness is something I strive to achieve the look of, hence why I like Levis so much, especially the hipsters, cause they slouch down to your hips and make you look even more assless.

HOW THE HELL DO I KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT LEVIS? This is really starting to disturb me.

kate, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was gonna say, I used to rock the 505 and 550 styles in high school because the fit was so great.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just been to the official Levis site, and I had to stop surfing because it was positively pornographic, oh, the asslessnesses...

Ha-hem.

Uh, yeah. Learning a lot about the differences between slim cuts and standard cuts and comfort cuts and flared vs. boot cut, and oh goodness gracious me, look at those asslessnesses.

I like the look of those 525's. I tried on the 544 Super Low flares, and they just made me feel ridiculous, like Shaggy off Scooby Doo or something. mmmmm, Shaggy off Scooby Doo.

I have got to stay off that site, it is too much for my hormones. Help! uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh... asslessness ...

kate, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My favorite pants are the ones that make me look most like Shaggy (except Shaggy with an ass).

nabisco, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

does anyone still wear tight jeans outside of country music videos? maybe its coming back in the uk so i wouldn't know.

anyway, go ahead and laugh but: whats a flare ?

V, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

V: flare is just new-millenium speak for bellbottoms. Skinny all the way down to a bit below the knee, then it gets wider. Bootcut is similiar, but nicer in my opinion- it's cut sort of straight from the top of the knee down, so it makes a nice subtle flaring effect. Which I ruin by being too short for my jeans anyway, so they bag up around my ankles.
Has anyone tried shortening jeans themselves by trimming the hems of the legs? The last two pairs I tried doing that to ended up all uneven, which just looked horrible, and rescue attempts only worsened the situation.

ahh, okay. cool term

Do prostitutes favour these? There's a quite nice-looking young woman who I regularly see soliciting for business on Shacklewell Lane in Hackney. I always think she spoils her look by wearing pale pink tight jeans (with predominantly white trainers), but maybe the punters go for that look.

When I was at the movies this weekend I saw this guy who was normally dressed except for the fact that his jeans looked painted on -- it was so disturbing! I started worrying that this style had come back from the 80's and I've just been too preoccupied to notice.

I used to only wear levis, I still have a couple of pairs I've had since I was 15 that have worn down to a soft, flannel-like finish. But they're now a little too ratty looking to wear out anywhere, and I can never find a suitable replacement.

Nicole, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i once met a guy from oregon who cut open the bottom of his jeans so he could swe them back together to within millimeteres of the circumfrence of his calves. it looked very weird. prety great though. i wear fairly tight jeans, but not tight enough so you can distinguish the lads. you can also see my bellybutton through most of my tshirts, but thats cos ic an't accustom myself to the fact i've put on a bit of meat when i'mbuying clothes. baggy stuff never suited me.

matthew james, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

anything anti-ass is bad

Ron, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what te hell?????

I've known them as flares as far back as I can remember! Like in the early eighties when my dad bet my sister that she'd wear flares one day...he turned out right about 10 years later.

halo halo, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

In an odd stroke of coincidence, I have just purchased a Levis corduroy record bag. I quite like it.

nabisco, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wear women's jeans and I'd recommend it to anyone, they fit like a glove!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it the "asslessness" that turns women on, or the tight seams of the jeans ?

V, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Hell yeah, us gay guys wear our Wranglers and Levi's 501's as skin tight as we can, so we have a camel toe and show off our package..we even wear em so tight we can't get the bottom button of the 501's buttoned....which only accentuates the package even more!!

Jimmy, Friday, 22 August 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

levi's 501s Vs. levis 501's.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 August 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

There. I was tired of tilting my head.
