aussies, do tell. is the u.s. ready for portuguese-australian chicken burgers?

hauntological-hysteric theater (get bent), Thursday, 24 February 2011 09:57 (fifteen years ago)

nando's a south african mozambiquan portuguese-themed south african chicken chain is doing OK in the UK

conrad, Thursday, 24 February 2011 10:06 (fifteen years ago)

nando's has two locations in the d.c. area. we're being overtaken by portuguese-themed restaurants from the southern hemisphere!

thread should be on The Cape tbh

Nandos >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Oporto

yesterday's twat (sic), Thursday, 24 February 2011 11:00 (fifteen years ago)

My view of all this is highly distorted as I live in Australia's Little Portugal.

Nandos is superior to Oporto but tbf, Oporto does the job and I would never say no to a Double Bondi with Extra Chilli.

Nandos is better than Oporto and these days that is not saying much at all.

berk psychosis (Trayce), Thursday, 24 February 2011 11:45 (fifteen years ago)

jbr, don't try it.

because you won't like it.

estela, Thursday, 24 February 2011 11:51 (fifteen years ago)

apparently nando's in south africa is more of a trashy takeaway joint rather than the exclusive swanky sit-down affair it is in the UK so you never know maybe oporto international will up its game I've never heard of it

conrad, Thursday, 24 February 2011 11:56 (fifteen years ago)

I went to a Nando's for the first time a week or so and it was way better than I'd expected it to be.

Thread title presumably means 'piri-piri sauce on everything' right?

Matt DC, Thursday, 24 February 2011 12:00 (fifteen years ago)

Chicken doesn't belong in burgers. I never visit either of these 'establishments'

sex cells (S-), Thursday, 24 February 2011 12:14 (fifteen years ago)

my oporto vision is of a food court at a mall with white plastic tables that have got shreds of lettuce and sesame seeds that fell out of someone's mouth stuck to them and then a resigned-looking man carrying an oporto tray who hasn't noticed he's got a burger receipt stuck to the sole of his shoe.

estela, Thursday, 24 February 2011 12:21 (fifteen years ago)

Oporto does the job

it's an unfulfilling role, and we think you're overqualified

that's my impression.

No koala tacos? WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

can oporto steal some of jollibee's market share in the Southland? only time will tell

buzza, Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:44 (fifteen years ago)

i hope so. filipino fast food seems unappetizing to me.

hauntological-hysteric theater (get bent), Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

if the portugese had colonized the philippines the fastfood landscape of today would be quite different

buzza, Thursday, 24 February 2011 18:59 (fifteen years ago)

had no idea oporto was australian. think i'm mixing it up with pret

racing up the fuck charts (electricsound), Thursday, 24 February 2011 22:25 (fifteen years ago)

that's my impression.

rong, nando's offers peri-peri as one of three sauce choices, oporto universally uses a very weak sweet chilli sauce

yesterday's twat (sic), Thursday, 24 February 2011 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

There's an Oporto in the upstairs bit at Victoria station in London. Think it's the same but have never eaten there.

if, Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:10 (fifteen years ago)

You know what? Oporto's wraps are "orright".

Dead to me u are.

berk psychosis (Trayce), Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

nah Oporto is shite tbh. But chicken burgin' is fine! Grill'd is good!

berk psychosis (Trayce), Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:20 (fifteen years ago)

But Grill'd have a) rubbish names for their chicken burgs and b) shredded carrot on some of them.

"People in Ireland are walking on Eire." (King Boy Pato), Thursday, 24 February 2011 23:26 (fifteen years ago)

Oh for sure, "zen hen" is the stupidest name for a burger in the history of stupidburgernames.
