People who say "In a sense X was our September 11th", where X was something bad that happened where they live - classic or dud

a bunch of whiners, that's what I say. I'm fed up of competitions as to who has suffered the most, or attempts to curry sympathy by riding the coattails of official sadness over 11-9.

Who has actually said this?

Has anyone said it about something worse than September 11th?

Actually I think I remember some bonehead saying it about PRINCESS DIANA DYING!

never heard anyomne saying it or (god forbid) writing it in a publication.

I said it about the time I rolled over my lego house in sleep.

james hyman on xfm said it
very early this year when the
remix show played 'intro/inspection'
for the very 1st time.
as in 'the 9/11 of remixes/bootys'.

Dud, but so is "9/11 is the worst thing to ever happen to anyone ever", IE it's the comparising that's the dud factor.

Who has actually said this?

I've heard some Irish commentator saying it of the Omagh bombing (and maybe saying that in proportional terms the Omagh bomb was worse.

yes. otm. The whole idea of hierarchies of suffering is a bit dodge.

having said that, I like the idea of referring to things I don't like as the 11/9 of whatever category they fall into (e.g. 12" remixes).
