Forks is looking for NYC interns

Details follow, drop her a line if you think you fit the profile.

Intern wanted for internet startup -- the more music-obsessed the better. We're looking for someone in the New York City area who is diligent, hard-working, can type, and who wants to learn. The internship is low-paying, but paying nonetheless. You can do the majority of the work at your own apartment, on your own computer.

This is not a writing position, but the more you understand the world of music criticism, the better. It's a commitment of around 10-20 hours per week--at $10/hour. It involves data wrangling, but not necessarily data entry. (in fact, if you know grep protocols, I really want to talk to you....)

Please email rme at panix . com if interested. If you have a resume, that's good too. We're looking to have someone on-board asap.

This bold 'lol indie' stance you've spent the last few hours taking has certainly impressed and captivated me

But this is something I think I'd really like to do, and I am getting a degree in Journalism & Media Studies, and I am interning at the A&R dept of a label at the moment, and I have been doing concert promotion stuff with my dad since I was 10, etc.!

Okay, i'm on the hunt again. Looking for an NYC/NJ-based person to intern with me for SummerStage at Central Park for 2013. This is an in-the-field gig; you won't be doing any paperwork and you will be outside. It is, all in all, a fun gig. The job involves maintaining our press list, manning the press tent, dealing with the public, coordinating with me on site and patrolling the photo pit and backstage to keep folks at bay. tza and Stevie D have interned with me before and can likely speak to my non-crepeyness irl.

This is an unpaid internship but you will have VIP access to attend and see all the shows in Central Park and all five boroughs. All we currently have announced is paid shows with Ben Howard/Michael Kiwanuka and She and Him/Camera Obscura but I've seen the lineup and there's diverse enough quality bookings that anyone who reads this board is gonna find five concerts to get excited about.

I'd need you to be available on-site at Rumsey Playfield (just inside Central Park at 5th Avenue and 72nd Street) for much of June 1 through August 21; 5pm to 10pm many weekdays and 2 to 7 most weekends; it's a total of forty dates over those three months. I tend to cut folks asap to be able to watch and enjoy the show once we close doors or the headliner goes on. It's an excellent opportunity to listen, learn, network and acquire the experience of working at one of the nation's largest stages (we hold 5k).

if you're interested enough to want to talk about it with me, drop me an email at forksclovetofu at gmail dot com and let me know ILX sent you.

(and i still regret not bookmarking this thread and missing the chance to work with jordan s before he went big time)

maybe i should bump this over to ILE? I think yes.

If Boehner's boner ever had a boner for another boner (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 17 March 2013 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

I also wish I could have used Jordan as an intern before he made the big move into paid labor

iatee, Sunday, 17 March 2013 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

i'd be so down but i need ca$h

flopson, Sunday, 17 March 2013 18:47 (thirteen years ago)

"big move" = published author

i can dig the money needs flopson. the company i'm contracting this for isn't allocating any cash for an intern staff so I'm left to offer occasional lunches and vip access to cool music and college credit in exchange for diligence. wish it were otherwise.

I'm on the hunt again for a part-time intern, now with money to offer! It's like ten bucks an hour for 15-20 hours per week, but it's money!

Doing a final run at unpaid interns for $ummer$tage this go-round and wanted to see if any ilxors wanted a try before i finalized my lineup.
hit me on ilxmail if you're into it; info follows

We are seeking interns to assist onsite at Central Park in Manhattan between June 5 and August 25.
More info about SummerStage here: http://www.cityparksfoundation.org/summerstage/
This is an in-the-field internship; you won't be doing any paperwork, Xeroxing or making coffee. You will be outside and active and listening to lots of great music. That said, you will need to be physically capable of working outdoors for several hour stretches; otherwise all ages, ability and experience levels are welcome to apply. The main requirements are that you be responsible, reliable, intelligent and punctual. This is an excellent opportunity to listen, learn, network and acquire the experience of working at one of the nation's largest outdoor stages (Rumsey Playfield's capacity is 5000).
Job duties will include manning the venue press tent, managing the guest list, escorting VIPs into backstage areas, dealing with the public, on-site coordination of press at events, monitoring our photo pit and accompanying video crews within the park grounds. The internship is unpaid but is eligible for credit under most college intern work programs. Interns will be granted VIP attendance for all SummerStage shows at Rumsey Playfield (just inside Central Park at 5th Avenue and 72nd Street), both paid and unpaid. Currently announced paid shows include Beck, The John Butler Trio at Allen Stone, Neon Trees, Conor Oberst and Dawes, Counting Crows and Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gavin DeGraw and Matt Nathanson; the planned lineup of free shows is diverse and high quality.
You will not necessarily be expected to intern for every performance at the festival, but will need to commit to work a minimum of 30 of the 40+ shows. Hiring preference will be given to applicants who can work the full calendar. Most performances will generally require your prompt attendance from 4 or 5 till 10pm; weekend shows occasionally run from 1 to 7pm. No off-site work will be required. This is our fifth year managing this program and I will be happy to connect you with several satisfied alumni if you'd like to find out more about how the job works.

I made a grave mistake with my balloon at the end (forksclovetofu), Monday, 7 April 2014 14:55 (twelve years ago)

one year passes...

Some of my favorite interns (and my one employee!) hail from ILX so i wanna extend this call for applicants here again for the upcoming season.

Yes it's unpaid. Yes I wish it wasn't but I see no reasonable way to make that happen (i try to roll with a six person intern team over 50+ shows and four months so even just paying for metrocards would run 2500 bucks), so I do my best to make this a profitable/educational/fun experience for everyone on board. Yes it's a considerable amount of work and time and commitment. Yes there is at least one band that's playing that you're going to get excited about.
Hit me up via ILX mail if you're interested but please include your email so I can follow up.

Hiring preference will be given to interns who can work the majority or full calendar. Weekday performances will generally require your prompt attendance from 4:00 pm until 10 pm; weekends generally run from either 1 to 7 pm or 4 to 10 pm. This will be our seventh year managing this program. We are happy to connect you with several satisfied intern alumni if you’d like to find out more.

No recruiters or secondary services.
