Who else, and also I think Dr. Kaku just might have some overexposure right now (challops I'm sure...). Does Roger Penrose still show up on TV? He's pretty great. He's so old he was once a Popular Scientist on the Radio.

Well Sagan broke the mold, everyone else is just moldy to varying degrees... I'd like to focus on currently alive people in this thread though.

I suppose mathematicians and philosophy of science people count here as well.

haha, was the guy in the Thomas Dolby video who shouts "She Blinded Me With Science!" patterned after him?

He seems rad thank you for bringing him to my attention, snoball!

daft punk truther (Viceroy), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 18:52 (thirteen years ago)

Yes.

Camp Macaroni Style (snoball), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 18:52 (thirteen years ago)

No wait, it actually was him.

Brian Greene astonished to find himself in the Matrix.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 18:54 (thirteen years ago)

hah it WAS him...

"Pyke appears on the 1982 pop song, and the video, "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby, where he shouts "science" and provides other sound bites. After the video was released, he was said to be annoyed by people coming up to him and shouting "Science!" at him."

I guess we can talk about all the great pop-sci ladies and d00ds, I just didn't want this to devolve into one big Sagan love-fest cause (IMO) he is obv. the best of the best.

Brian Greene I think is a better writer than TV presenter, whereas I think the opposite is true of Michio.

daft punk truther (Viceroy), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

why u hate Bill Nye?

the Upperchest (crüt), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

he's a smug jerk. Have you ever experienced him outside of his kids TV show?

daft punk truther (Viceroy), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 19:02 (thirteen years ago)

He'll do shit like go on Coast to Coast AM and then be really mean and condescending to the people who call in... its like uh, ur on C2CAM these people get their news from Alex Jones have a little fuckin' patience....

daft punk truther (Viceroy), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 19:04 (thirteen years ago)

He's also very proud of the fact that he made Pluto not a planet. As an ex-UU and an NMSU alum he makes my blood boil!

Anyone know if Freeman Dyson did a lot of TV spots? He's basically my all time favorite scientist. Unless you want to consider Buckminster Fuller as an actual scientist.

Dan I agree with you, but I still think Nye is a jerk.

xp True, but then Nimoy himself went on to be the voice of "In Search Of..." as well as other things (*cough* his LOTR record) that totally shot his cred as a science spokesvulcan.

i gotta admit that i'm a bill nye fan because i grew up watching his show, and also he once led a group of people (including me) on a guided tour around ithaca to talk about the relative distances between each planet in the solar system. he was very nice and kind and funny!
