i once broke it off with an ex after a dinner date. i had planned on doing it that way because i sure as hell didn't want to discuss it at the actual restaurant, but i felt so sick about it that i was pretty much miserable and silent throughout the meal and hardly touched my food

Dinner dates are a ritual of domesticity so it's kind of cruel to plan to break up during one, imo

Breaking up over e-mail/text message is highly underrated.

If I'm taking a lover I'm going to consign to friend out to dinner, I'm not going to tell him during a good dinner that I'm consigning him to friendship. Since presumably I wouldn't go through the trouble of doing this with a boyfriend but only with a trick who didn't work out, I'll do it over the phone.

Oh my I didn't know Patrice Chéreau died. That is sad and horrible news. Gabrielle is possibly my favourite film of the last decade. RIP big man.

Seriously, though, one of the more disturbing trends I've noticed in my probably-not-THAT-limited samplings is that gay porn starting black dudes is almost always bareback. Twink porn too (which I don't really watch), but I suspect that this is for different, though no less disturbing, reasons.

I've noticed that most porn of ALL categories that I run into on Tumblr and -tube sites is bareback. I haven't paid much attention to the breakdown within the categories though.

I think it's because i'm completely not used to seeing these types of people on screen, like people that I see specific parts of myself in or relate to in a lot of ways that I never, ever see outside of the real-life instances in which these moments occur. Basically it's making me feel types of things that films never, ever make me feel, and they're not intrinsically good or bad but they're strange because they're so unusual

That's how I responded too. It was hard setting the affective fallacy aside for this one.

There was a period of my life where if I saw this movie I would flip the fuck out and it would instantly become the most meaningful and most favorite film but now it just makes me feel a kind of strange mild nervousness or discomfort, though I do acknowledge that, biases aside, it's a pretty great film. I can't tell if I actually like it or not because there are parts of me that really do, or really want to, and other parts of me that are kind of terrified of it or make me want to hate it for reasons I can't quite discern.

The final scene is so, so, so fucking great. Love that movie.

The Godard Weekend made me feel pretty funny too.
