Have you googles for "UK TV guide" or something like that?

Who decides what the numbers mean? I assume it can't be some sort of encryption of the time and date, so someone must. Does the station send out the number at the start of the broadcast or what?

nor does ananova

(yeah i think it just means START MACHINE NOW, cz it still records the prog if the broadcast is a bit delayed)

oh it's working now: maybe i was keying in the wrong digits pre-coffee?

still, i'd like to know, cz i often don't buy as tv guide

The number is just based on the channel, start and stop times. The reason it still records delayed prorgrammes is the PDC (Programme Delivery Control) signal techology. I don't think this is reliant on Videoplus, but I might be wrong.

Anyway, Videoplus BAD
Mark S, can you really not program a video recorder without Videoplus?

http://tallyho.bc.nu/~steve/videoplus.html

has the source code to compile your own videoplus decoder*. you give it date, time, channel, and length of program and it'll give you the videoplus number. this is probably too much work and it's probably easier to just do a non-videoplus recording. can't find a website with the numbers pre-calculated though, i think the licensing issues stop this.

or buy a tivo. they're great.

andy
* the page i found this link on had another version of the same program written in spectrum BASIC. ha!

I have a TV star friend too: I've known her for over twenty years (since she was 15!) and she has been on Trisha several times. She started as an expert on bizarre (carefully chosen word: she created and edited the mag of that name for many years) sexual stuff, and then sort of became a more general relationship expert.
