Three words to describe an artist

Try to describe a band or an artist with three words (adjectives, nouns, verbs or a mix of them) and let the others guess whom you meant.

First person getting it right can continue the game with three words.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 28 October 2002 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

dreamy, fluffy, ethereal

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 28 October 2002 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Cocteau twins?

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep, the easiest one I could think of.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 28 October 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

equally easy...

deadpan, wry, ironic

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Pavement? Not sure about ironic though...

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Beck?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:05 (twenty-three years ago)

nup

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:07 (twenty-three years ago)

deadpan, wry, ironic

What is this, the fucking All Music Guide? :-)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't both examples so far contain three words which all mean the same thing? Dreamy, fluffy and ethereal are essentially synonymous in music criticism. Same goes for deadpan, wry and ironic.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:09 (twenty-three years ago)

and my next example would have been synonymous too...

perverse, scottish , smartarse

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't agree, Eyeball Kicks. Nick Drake for example is often dreamy but neither fluffy nor ethereal.

Another go on Geoff's first submission: Lou Reed?

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:17 (twenty-three years ago)

nope

im trying to think of another word to add but deadpan, wry , ironic is pretty much it

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Sparks?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

warmer

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:24 (twenty-three years ago)

It had better not be the Pet Shop Boys.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Your second one is Arab Strap, n'est-ce pas, Geoff? Is it the same as the first?

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

of course its the pet shop boys. your go...

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

alex, I was thinking of momus but now you mention it it seems more apt for arab strap

Geoff, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Faust: Playful, Whimsical, Abrasive.

Juan, Monday, 28 October 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

This recreates a REAL ACTUAL PARTY GAME played by us with an old pack of NME playing cards. It became known as "Dead, Mad or Free" because they were the adjectives most commonly picked. ("Free" = "served prison sentence").

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 October 2002 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

What is this, the fucking All Music Guide? :-)

Hey now, language.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 October 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron A., Monday, 28 October 2002 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

The Locust?

wl (wl), Monday, 28 October 2002 22:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Who is the Locust? I guess what I am thinking of is a little older...

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 28 October 2002 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Instead of cricket I could also have said croquet. And fairy tale.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 08:22 (twenty-three years ago)

palindrome, europop, sexy = Telex?

Keith McD (Keith McD), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 09:04 (twenty-three years ago)

ok: synaesthesia, numerology, rural.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

"Numerology" and "rural" would fit for 16 Horsepower. Not so sure about synaesthesia though.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry, i've been busy doing *work*, heh. it's not 16 horsepower, no.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:54 (twenty-three years ago)

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

there's no number in the band name.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

My last guess, the others should have a chance as well. We are not talking about Led Zeppelin, aren't we?

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:18 (twenty-three years ago)

we are not.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Where is everybody? Do I need to give the winners lollipops? Is this too easy or too difficult? Or are quizzes out? I shut up now.
