S/D - Hi, I used to be in a prog band, but it seems the times have changed and now I make "Bad film scores"

Mark Isham and Trevor Rabin immediately come to mind, any other culprits?

Jerry Bruckheimer flicks, or at least those inspired by his product seem to hire these guys a lot.

Stewart Copeland kinda counts?

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 01:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess Mark Mothersbaugh doesn't count... or does he?

goblin -- bad? sometimes

JasonD, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

GOBLIN RULE YR ASS OK

(I think they're awesome.)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Goblin is the band from the Dario Argento movies?

Keith Emerson did one of those as well.

Dario Argento rocks. I like the way his movies seem like he spent 20 minutes on the script and a year on the lighting.

What about Danny Elfmann? Should JBR and I make our own "You Were Neu Wave and then you punked out to Hollywood" Thread?

Mike Taylor (mjt), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 01:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Jan Hammer? Jazz fusion is sort of prog-like, no?

Lee G (Lee G), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm surprised this thread has gone on so long with no one mentioning Vangelis!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 03:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Tangerine Dream did some scores too

Keith McD (Keith McD), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 03:14 (twenty-three years ago)

& Oldfield

Keith McD (Keith McD), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 03:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Elfman has made some brilliant film scores.

David Allen, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay.. can I flip-flop the question? Patrick Moraz made an excellent film score (for Alain Tanner's "La Salamandre", 1971) and then went on to be associated with YES and other things proggy. I liked the soundtrack so much that I recorded all the music off of a rented videotape and created my own private bootleg "La Salamandre" soundtrack.

Captain Sleep (Captain Sleep), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 06:01 (twenty-three years ago)

pink floyd?

gygax!, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 06:57 (twenty-three years ago)

The elephant in the room is P Gabriel

dave q, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 07:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Not just Gabriel, you could say that all of the 'standard' members of Genesis count for this one. Aside from the obvious ones like Passion and Birdy + Phil's Disney crap - Phil, Pete and Mike were all on the Against All Odds Soundtrack, and if I remember correctly Tony Banks did a lot of the score for that 80's Kevin Bacon movie called Quicksilver. I know I shouldn't know this, it's an osmosis thing.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I was a GRebo and now I do films: step forward Clint Mansell.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

The Goblin score to Suspiria is fantastic.

sundar subramanian, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

here's yet another: Graeme Revell, formerly of SPK/Surgical Penis Klinik.

areaitch, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I just watched the Suspiria DVD bonus disc of interviews with Goblin, etc. I will pay good money for a "pop-up" cover copy of the LP.

Sean (Sean), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 03:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked Goblin's Dawn of the Dead score.
