A much better question. And I do like your answer. :-) I'd say house if it came down to it -- something about it just feeling more beautifully alive, even more than 'disco' however defined, if we want to split hairs.

I say disco 'cos it's basically the foundation for the former, sounds great merged with the latter (exhibit a: "Danger! High Voltage!") and the beats and rhythms fit nicely into various non/post-disco/rock/etc elements too (Television's "Friction", Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer", and pre-RUN-D.M.C. hip-hop). This is pretty much the opposite of what I thought in high school, by the way (though I lurved funk so it was just a matter of time, heh).
