the exclamation mark unintentionally reminds me of the most tasteless thing ever said on radio:

Chris Evans, Radio 1, September 1996, over the intro to "California Love"

Evans: "you know this record, don't you?"
posse: "Yes! Yes!"
Evans: "we love it, don't we? we think it's great?"
posse: "Yes!"
Evans: "well, you know Tupac? The guy who sang it?"
posse: "Yes!"
Evans (*immediately* before vocals come in, and in his usual jaunty, upbeat wanker-DJ voice, without even attempting any sort of sadness): "well, he died at the weekend! he's dead!"

i doubt that was the most tasteless thing ever said on radio.

I have never heard worse.

Yes, but I think Keith still has a point. If you think about it.

What blows my mind (and J.'s mind as well) was that of all the rappers in the world, he's the one who gets shot. There are other rappers out there right now who have gangbanger enemies and nasty tempers...and are still walking around completely unscathed. But, as far as I know, Jam Master J. had no real enemies and was far too laid back to get any. I'm not implying that he was a puss or something, I'm just saying that it strikes me as counter-intuitive that someone would have a greivance against him.
Its like someone taking out their anti-Eminem agressions by killing Ad-Rock.

Side Issue: Does anyone here think there might be some sort of misguided East Coast/West Coast dimention to this?

I don't believe the east coast/west coast b.s. in this at all. Everyone has skeletons in their closet and I suspect JMJ had some too. We just didn't hear about it. It doesn't mean he wasn't associated with "gang-bangers" or what not if it wasn't mentioned.

There was a very odd tribute played on Radio 1 a moment ago, the trainspotter contest (first to phone in identifying a classic dance record) was "My Adidas". There was even a tribute by Judge Jules at the beginning, but it had to be anonymous because otherwise the competition would have been ruined. Just play "Peter Piper" at the beginning, you idiots.

"We interrupt Princess Diana's funeral to bring you a special edition of the National Lottery Live. Fifty percent of profits will be donated to charities helping the victims of landmines."
