i think this is heading for being the album i've listened to most this year. particularly disc one; it just maintains an insane level of excitement, peak after peak after peak.

so, what else is as good as this? subliminal sessions 3? i need more!

Well it's not quite as hot as Sub 2 but Subliminal Sessions 3 is really good and I've given it lots of attention all year.

If you like the Archigram track "Mad Joe", track 5 on Disc 2 I think, then you'd be mad not to download "Carnival", also by them. It's fantastic, this solid french house head nodding groove thing going on, perfect. Also Subliminal Records (The Story So Far) is a decent mix, some really good tracks if a little dated in places.

More of a gamble might be Underwater Records 1-Created by Darren Emerson and Tim Deluxe, a similar housey sound, not a million miles away from Subliminal Type stuff. But yeah to be honest, the third Subliminal Sessions is a great mix, particularly Disc 2.

(PS:what are your fave tracks on it? I'm a big fan of Par T One-I'm So Crazy, Whiplash-Ghetto Tears, HCCR's own Beats Vol. 2, and also Erick Morillo's remix of Thrill Me by Junior Jack.)

As you can see, I could talk about Subliminal all day....

The new Subliminal live mix set looks like a really good complement two no. 2 Toby (and I agree incidentally - it's definitely my favourite non-micro house release this year).

unfortunately my (promo) copy has no track divisions, but my faves on the first disc are prob i'm so crazy + the first four tracks (which include 3 of yr picks i guess) - i love the fact that they're all built around saying "fuck" a zillion times. i should listen to the second disc more.

Thinking about that first disc, what I love is how the "Thrill Me" (and "La La Land" too really) and then "I'm So Crazy" form these twin pillars of absolute insanity at either end of the disc. "I'm So Crazy" in particular is a simply amazing track on the dancefloor, and would be one of my top ten tracks this year if it wasn't an '01 track.

(best context for "I'm So Crazy" was hearing some of the Avalanches guys do a DJ mix to warm up for Basement Jaxx: in between all the other musical non-sequiters they kept interweaving snippets of the Hutchence vocal, then eventually bootlegging it, then finally allowing it explode into its full glory for about ten minutes of mayhem - we couldn't help but tire ourselves out even before the Jaxx came on).

Harry Romero at Homelands is one of the best DJ sets I've seen this year.

Re:I'm So Crazy, you can include the Erick Morillo Vs Who Da Funk Vs Dirty Vegas (of all people) remix which appears on Subliminal:The Story So Far and was released this year. It's also a good bit better than the original in my opinion. It's a monster of a track though, in all its forms, nothing like the "just keep walkin'" part

eh.....sorry I wanted to clear the ambiguity of the last line in the first post.

The third disc on Subliminal Sessions 3 is surprisingly good, ostensibly a cheap subliminal promo it contains some of the best vocal house around - Deep Night Noise's "5.A.M" and Praise Cats' "Shined On Me" are the sound of those perfect nights that go way beyond their best before dates.

six months pass...

i'm STILL getting up in the morning to this album!

has anybody heard the "who da funk" sessions disc? i'm considering getting vol. 4 just for that disc (i think i can safely assume jose nunez is nothing to get excited about).
