it's getting to that time of year where if yr in the UK yopu are going to hafta start thinking about soundtracking the fireworks display. true - it could be argued that both of these are planetarium more than fireworks musics, and you might be tempted to dismiss tomita's endeavours cos he dpn't bust his own grooves. but man he fucked shit up. vangelis - well, you do realise chariots of fire comes into it somewhere don't you? who ya gonna choose, poppets?

Rockist answer: Tomi had the best album (Pictures At An Exhibition) but Van had the greater career ("The Four Horsemen", "Pulstar", "So Long Ago So Clear"/Short Stories/"State of Independence"...,not forgetting the Blade Runner soundtrack. So Van it is.

Tomita!!! Looped by the Dungeon Family for "White Gutz". Who samples Vangelis? Nobody.

d'oh!

I still prefer Tomita. I think it's just cuz he's nerdier and was willing to do really silly things (like a concept album about the Bermuda Triangle).

tomita for his contributions to the Sans Soleil soundtrack.

Good God. Has it really come to this? :)

Anyway, I'm going with Vangelis, if only because of:

- Blade Runner
- Heaven and Hell
- the "infinity" track with Irene Papas on Aphrodite's Child's 666
- the gloriously psychotic "Not a Bit - All of It" from See You Later

The Tomita albums I've heard (I've heard the Live in NYC and Live at Linz one) never sounded all that interesting to me. Am I missing his better works?
