I know it's not fair to make you choose but if you had to choose which one would you choose. I know you don't have to but if you had to which one, is what I'm asking. Do you understand the question, it isn't a hard question even though the answer is hard, very very hard.

“hooch” is vastly superior, the other songs are nowhere close

it could easily be a sugar ray song !

budo jeru, Thursday, 1 August 2019 05:31 (six years ago)

“what it’s like” would have been a better option. even though it’s also better it’s in the same wheelhouse

“hooch” more in that everclear / third eye blind axis, at least to my ears

I was thinking about "Hooch" the other day! I haven't heard it since it came out, or met anyone else who remembers it; it's never been clear to me whether it was an actual hit, or just something my local top 40 station decided to push hard for a few months.

Interestingly (or not), those few months overlapped my middle school-era habit of playing Final Fantasy Tactics for six hours a day with the radio on in the background. To this day, the image that comes to my mind when I hear the chorus is Delita getting pecked by a chocobo.

You really should listen to the song 'Hooch' by Everything. Everyone should experience the wholesale collapse of all their beliefs and values at least once, it builds character.

COOL DUDE'S ONLY, NO NERD'S ALOUD (Old Lunch), Thursday, 1 August 2019 17:15 (six years ago)

i'm sorry but you should NOT simply listen to the song 'Hooch' by Everything. that is DANGEROUS advice from the above poster OLD LUNCH. You should first buy a dress shirt with a gigantic collar and a baggy suit. put them on. now unbutton that shirt a few buttons and pull the gigantic collar over the lapel of your suit jacket. people are going to want to see that collar. drive out to a farmhouse with a shady porch. hold a saxophone. picture tens of fans out there standing in the grass to see you play that saxophone. listen to the song 'Hooch' by Everything.

There were a lot of not-great songs on the radio at that time, which I know because we always had the radio on at my place of work, but 'Hooch' really went that extra mile to stand out in the crowd. I've never donated marrow but I imagine the sensation isn't terribly dissimilar to hearing 'Hooch'.

“Hakuna Matata,” a nihilist philosophy (One Eye Open), Friday, 2 August 2019 12:20 (six years ago)

Okay, having now done some cursory research on the band Everything, I find that I was correct in my assumption that they are (ARE, not was) a group of college buddies. However, I was incorrect in my assumption that this song could only have been written by dudes sittin' around the quad, killin' time between devil stick sessions, because 'Hooch' is from their fourth album, released nearly a decade after the band's formation.

It's sick and sad and weird but I really need to hear their early work now.

Back in 2000, when the pirate-era Napster was at its height, I remember a group calling themselves HMO posting a quasi-viral "Summer Girls" parody called - wait for it - "Hummer Girls", which somehow achieves the feat of being even more juvenile and horrific than the head_desk.gif original (Amidst all of the not-even-single entendres - more like entendre's first derivative - I remember 'timeless', 'clever' references to the Blair Witch Project and Happy Gilmore).

I wonder if anyone has written the definitive guide to those odd, curio novelty tracks that proliferated after Napster went all Gutenberg with the "warez" versions of music production programs like ACID or Cubase. That, or maybe someone has written a basic S&D thread, although I'm not sure there are any tracks worthy of the S part of that term. There was one I swear I heard a few times, but there is basically no evidence that it ever existed: a "remix" of Elliott Smith's "Waltz #2" that was just the original song with overdubs of a bunch of cheesy sound effects, booing, crying babies, out-of-time drum machines, and drunk people saying Elliott's name over and over. It was like listening to a bad "Shreds" video atop the original song.

Ben Gibbard and the Libbard Wibbard (Prefecture), Sunday, 19 April 2026 21:03 (one month ago)

I remember "Hummer Girls"!!! my friend "Zinger" would play it nonstop whenever we went over to his place along with "At a Medium Pace" by Adam Sandler. main thing I remember was how shitty it sounded, like it was recorded into a $5 mic

would love to read such a guide though, feel like half of these spread around because they were tagged as "Weird Al", in fact I can very much remember people making their own Weird Al mix CD-Rs which would contain songs that sounded awful and clearly weren't him, but somehow they didn't notice??

frogbs, Sunday, 19 April 2026 23:19 (one month ago)

i missed out on "hummer girls", i mostly remember "hooker on the corner" (also "weenie in a bottle") and "make my boobies one more size" from that time

seems there are 15+ year old uploads of all these on youtube, like they were among the first things ppl thought to add there
