So, like, pretend you're throwing a huge house party ("just like Kid & Play!" you're all saying to yourselves). What group/artist is out back beside the pool providing the soundtrack?

Dan I., Monday, 9 December 2002 09:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Beastie Boys, maybe?

They're a band that can seem to unite people into hip-hop / rock / dance / just about anything.

Oh yeah, forgot to say, ANYONE living or dead is fair game.

I think mine would be Fela Kuti or the Incredible Bongo Band.

Dan I., Monday, 9 December 2002 09:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Liars or Jesus Lizard - I wish I threw that type of party.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 9 December 2002 09:40 (twenty-three years ago)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 9 December 2002 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

also: cheap trick, billy idol, scorpions, GNR in their prime, ziggy-era bowie, devo

and journey (for the afterparty)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 9 December 2002 10:56 (twenty-three years ago)

The local slew of DJs who spin at the parties I seem to end up at. Very worthy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 December 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

The Avalanches, 2 Many DJs, De La Soul (but - and here's the twist! - only performing recent stuff).

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 9 December 2002 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

The Roots

Anyone who's seen them in concert might concur. Their party-band applicability is increased exponentially by their diverse array of cover songs (I've seen them play, among other things, "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Woo Ha! (Got You All In Check)", "Sex Machine", and even the theme song from "WKRP in Cincinnati" [guess what city they played THAT song in...].

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 9 December 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Seriously, people, could the answer really be anything else but.....

Actually, a rare, post-death appearance by this band would be, as they say uptown, the shizz-it:
