how does she not have a thread, i remember play with the changes got a fair bit of discussion on here somewhere

Thanks for the reminder.

It’s good! She’s good in general!

yeah I think previous discussion has been on general threads but there hasn't been much of it. i remember when play with the changes showed up in the albums 77 in 2021 (with my #1 vote!) a lot of people hadn't heard of it before.

i think the new album is pretty great, a very luxurious, enveloping, all-consuming soundscape à la kelela's raven, but the more i listen the more i'm discerning the subtle differences in style between tracks - there's uk funky on "close 2 me", funk-funky on "sweet sensation" (produced by DāM-FunK!), pharrell homage on "get it off", 1991 EP homage on "ladida", etc etc. "the boy" fading out as it does is so egregious, might be my favourite track overall otherwise.

I had thought of Raven too, and, like that album, I gotta be in the mood for it.

I think it’s an excellent album but maybe I feel that way because I am basically always in the mood

they're similar but raven was much less energetic while this is maintaining a groove for pretty much the whole hour. the stylistic diversity is one of the great things about this, she's very effortlessly brought all these subgenres together into a cohesive overarching vibe

xpost I mean...go with what you know.

i'm looking forward to hearing this, i always felt like she was underrated.

I love this R&B music indebted to Janet's "Together Again" (Kelela's Take Me Apart for instance, superior to Raven and my album of the year).

this album is great, everyone otm about how it hangs together while still being stylistically diverse. my faves that haven't been mentioned yet are "the boy" (peak kaytranada imo) and "ttw" (feverish, pulsing, deep house groove)

so many awesome production details, so much music!

seven months pass...

a bit disappointed that she's really blatantly lip-syncing tonight

idk like it's just uncanny when she's only singing like half the time
