Is Akufen "deck the house" a joke?

It's on the Muzik Best of 2002 CD, it sounds like Lemon Jelly except crapper.

It just needs some samples going "I CHALLENGE THEE" "TO" "A DANCING"

"CONTEST!"

"I'M GONNA EAT YOUR"

"UMBRELLA"

Oh hahahahah, now hit me with a hilarious kung fu sample.

How did I type "thee" there, that is so weird, I swore I'd written "you".

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

ronan, go back to your groove armada records. ;)

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 10:49 (twenty-three years ago)

It's called Final Shakedown, that Groove Armada song, I stand by my praise. Seriously it's the guitar that ruins this, the kind of clunky jokey country guitar, you people claim to hate big beat? This is like the worst Midfield General song ever! I AM NOT AMUSED! It's actually ok but that guitar is fucking TERRIBLE and murders it, I expect to hear quacking ducks and springy comic noises aswell as cars honking horns and clowns running around on fire waving their hands in the hair like that Clown College Simpsons.

I'll still probably buy Digital Disco as soon as I have some money though. I'm selling my guitars and buying turntables (fact) so this shouldn't be long.

i quite like this...

it surprised me, i thought it would be a bit more dull.

i do think todd edwards weaves magic from his cutups, while akufens feel a little forced, but this is still a good record

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

think more daft punk and, like gareth said, todd edwards than midfield general and you may enjoy it more.

"I expect to hear quacking ducks and springy comic noises aswell as cars honking horns and clowns running around on fire waving their hands in the hair like that Clown College Simpsons".

and this makes it bad?

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 11:08 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, i've just realised, that makes it sounds great!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 11:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Andy B's description of the Akufen album as "Todd Edwards meets Kompakt" still sounds apt to me. Since Todd Edwards is a godlike genius, people ripping him off can only be a good thing, and I like My Way, the Akufen album, more than I do any of Edwards' album (though Todd's still the godlike genius artist to Akufen's really really good one)

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

leomon jelly - huh? i don't get it. 'deck the house' seems to polarise opinion but in the mix on a good soundsystem, it rocks! one of thee tunes of 2002 that inevitably lead to someone coming up and asking 'what was that?'

stirmonster, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 12:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah bit stirmonster, did you leave out the final word at the end of that sentence ie "toss"? :)

I've not heard the record (or have I, who knows eh) but it's shit because it sounds a bit like Afro Ken but is not so it ... = rub.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I just bought My Way about an hour ago. Now tell me I haven't made a mistake... ;)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

you haven't made a mistake.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and 'scuse my ignorance-but what's digital disco?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan are you drunk?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

No! I posted that at 9.30 this morning, it's just I was listening to Generalisation by Midfield General WHICH I OWN (the shame)at the weekend cos my friend wanted to hear the original version of Coatnoise. I also wanted to go on a rant about silly sampled voices, if my friend Simon is lurking as I know he does then maybe he can unlurk and tell me off. A few weeks ago he was playing an old skool warp comp and I said how I thought patching voices together to say "we will have.........a party" or whatever it is is really dated. I was thinking of Coldcut Journeys by DJ aswell.

I feel very much in the "I don't get it" camp on this one but I do feel this is just wackiness for the sake of wackiness which I don't care for. Admittedly the Muzik best of 2002 CD is not a great place to hear anything new.
