I like this. The production is crunchy . Almost Den Haag-ish. And she can't really sing, which to me is a plus when it comes to vocalists+machines.

I got woken up by an amazing psychedelic dronepop tune this morning on Triple J, with strangely familiar very girly vocals and a fuck-off pop tune under all the fuzz...what was it? Dot frickin' Allison, apparently!

So I went to investigate buying the album, but a. my local shop had run out of its 3-copies-they-ordered-when-it-came-out, and b. the bloke behind the counter told me the rest of the album apart from what he surmised to be the one I heard (I forget what it's called) was pants.

Is this true? Is the whole album worth a listen/purchase? Cos that one track sounded magnificent.

well the One Dove album was great and some songs from her first were great ( DID i imagine you for an example=) but i don´t like the new stuff of what i´ve heard

I don't really get it myself. It's nice enough but it's basically a Radioactive Man album with a few snips of Dot singing over the top. It works up to a point but I always wonder how much input Dot had into the whole thing. "I Think I Love You" is the best song on it but it's te same line repeated over and over. Plus there was much better stuff int he same vein of electro-pop/clash coming out at precisely the time of this release.

Listening-wise, I give it a 3 out of 5 but ethically I give it 2.

sixteen years pass...

So We Are Science leaves me a little cold (I used to like it way back when) but Afterglow holds up quite well... Room 7 1/2 isn't on Spotify so I can't check it out here at work.

I was listening to ‘Afterglow’ not too long ago and agree it holds up well. Prompted me to pick up ‘We Are Science’ as I didn’t get it on release, I enjoyed it more than I may have done at the time.

I have MP3s of ‘Exaltation of Larks’ but probably not listened to it since it came out. Have never heard ‘7 1/2 Weeks’.

very low profile release.
at the time she was hanging out a lot with pete doherty, and dropped all electronica from her production.
the band for this album was : rob ellis, mick harvey, james johnston, terry edwards.
there was an ep that preceded this album with some involvement from tim simenon, but having trouble locating that at the moment.

to be honest, given i liked her previous albums (inc one dove of course), i was not overly impressed with 7 1/2.
not my kind of thing at all.
but i have dug it, and the ep, out, so will given them another listen.

I'll spend some time with Exaltation of Larks and see what's going on there.

On a related note, supposedly the vinyl version of Morning Dove White has different mixes compared to the CD/cassette... kinda curious about that.
