how come todd terry is so well known? i mean, i'm not entirely sure of what he's ever actually done. but he's managed a pretty decent live over the last x years.

what i like about todd terry is the way that he prostitutes himself out for a dodgy remix to *anyone* who shows him the money. and then admits it in interviews, saying "yeh, so what, i want the $". i kinda like that attitude, too much bloody integrity these days i reckon

as for his stuff, i think CLS - 'can you feel it' is a stone cold classic, everything else has left me a bit cold. anything else worth picking up?

oh, and didn't he try a terrible d'n'b album a few years ago?

Sorely underrated Todd moment: "There's Something Going On (In Your Soul)", a superlative machinic but soulful vocal house track on the _Ready For A New Day_ album, which is in general quite underrated anyway.

I've no idea if they are available anywhere anymore, but the 1989 (?) 'A Day In The Life'/'Warlock' 12" (under the Black Riot name) and the Toddy Terry Project's 'Weekend'/'Just Wanna Dance' 12" are pretty great. I think the TTP album 'To the Batmobile Let's Go' is probably pretty good but my copy was warped so I could never hear it properly.

Stuff in later years hasn't sounded that great to me.

like to add my voice to the 'carl craig is god' movement, more please! as for todd terry, yes, he is a bit of a knob head but he was also probably the first house artist i really got into. some favourites: his dub of 'brighter days' by cajmere & dajae; the aforementioned 'a day in the life' by black riot and cls 'can you feel it'; 'bango' todd terry project; 'bounce to the beat' sound design: 'can you party' and 'yeah buddy' by royal house and an old vocal track on sleeping bag records whose name escapes me. good trackie stuff, go and have a look for some of it.

I am not well known for my reviewing skills, so I will do a condensed, ILM-friendly overview.

CLASSIC: The music -- can't think of a dull act, and the offsite stuff by Hawtin/Plastikman was especially fun. The people were really great too, met literally tons of people from Europe and Australia who came over for the fest.

DUD: The weather. I fucking hate rain to begin with, but even more so at an outdoor festival. Also, all of the corporate politics that ousted Carl Craig (who had the idea of the festival in the first place) from the organization committee, and all of the tiresome logos.

Mostly (a bit of early '90s genuine shit as well, but all the essential stuff is there - takes me back to my long-lost youth etc. cont. p 94 Observer Review...). It's going for £7 in that shop in Berwick Street which isn't Mister CD.

I reviewed it on Stylus back in the beginning of the year, it's a very solid comp, although the first CD mix is about twice as exciting as discs 2 and 3.

I'd just find To The Batmobile Let's Go and related CD-singles, and stick with that, see how you like.

This 3-CD set looks to be about half-good... pretty solid at least until halfway through CD 2, possibly all the way through CD 2. Kinda "eh" about CD 3. What's nice is that this collects the Royal House stuff, even though early Todd Terry is a great albeit one-flavor indulgence, not unlike mid-80s Tackhead being a great one-flavor indulgence.. just a different great sound, recycled again and again for different artists/aliases/etc.
