"If it wasn't for hip hop the whole world would be boring". - Snoop Dogg in a tv interview i saw today

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:34 (twenty-three years ago)

False. Hiphop can be just as boring as anything else.

hstencil, Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Was it boring before hip-hop?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:38 (twenty-three years ago)

hstencil is right about hip-hop, but Snoop's right too.

Matt C., Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

You could say that without war the world would be boring, so maybe a different adjective is what is needed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Snoop's response is pretty boring, too. He shoulda thrown a "shizzle" or "beeeeyotch" in there to spicen things up.

hstencil, Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

he didn't say all hiphop was interesting

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

world before hiphop = boring
world after hiphop = not boring

you do the math.

hstencil, Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet his life wd b boring w/o h-h

Horace Mann, Thursday, 12 December 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

you're doing too much math

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 12 December 2002 20:10 (twenty-three years ago)

It's the new math.

hstencil, Thursday, 12 December 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

...so simple even a Snoop can do it?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 12 December 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

hip + hop = h2iop2

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe SNOOP's whole world (i.e. his life, his experience, his expectations) was boring before hip hop. Maybe that's what he was getting at.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:14 (twenty-three years ago)

=h(ip + op) = h(i + o)p = (hp)(i+o) = hp(i+o)(i-o)/(i-o) = hp(i^2-o^2)/(i-o) = (ipi-opo)/(i-o)h^-1

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

what does ^ mean anyway?

before & after math, Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:27 (twenty-three years ago)

"x^n" = "x raised to the nth power"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like to hear some math hop.

Curtis Stephens, Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:40 (twenty-three years ago)

you don't. you really don't.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:41 (twenty-three years ago)

"1, 2, 3 and to the 4
Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre is at the do'"

hstencil, Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe SNOOP's whole world (i.e. his life, his experience, his expectations) was boring before hip hop. Maybe that's what he was getting at.

Sort of like when Morton Feldman said the 20th Century would have been a disaster if it weren't for John Cage.

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

oh ok thanx dan. (i think i got the worst marks in hi skool maths of anyone in the history of the world.)

d, Thursday, 12 December 2002 22:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Snoop is right! kinda...if hip hop had never happened, thus assuming NOTHING new had happened in the late 70s/early 80s, precisely and perfectly timed as it was then the world would be more boring than it is, purely because there would be a huge void where 'something' big and culturally resonant should be, at least in the world of arts/entertainment...this is if you believe that without hip hop there would be no house thus no techno thus no jungle thus no breakbeat garage etc. etc.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 13 December 2002 01:07 (twenty-three years ago)

and pop music would be fucked!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 13 December 2002 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

"if hip hop had never happened, thus assuming NOTHING new had happened in the late 70s/early 80s"

hello.....ever hear of Punk Rock?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 December 2002 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

hello.....ever hear of Punk Rock?

So without Hip-Hop, we wouldn't have had House/Techno/Jungle/etc, but we'd still have Blink-182...

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 13 December 2002 01:50 (twenty-three years ago)

World's not boring? Shit. All this time I thought I needed booze to keep myself entertained, and the world's actually not boring! Holy Shaynazz!

Fuck some world. Kiss my perspective, bitches.

Tom Millar (Millar), Friday, 13 December 2002 03:11 (twenty-three years ago)

the irony is that right now hip-hop is more boring than the rest of the world.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 13 December 2002 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly, very true, Anthony.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 December 2002 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 13 December 2002 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)
