I'm listening to the Boredoms' Vision Creation Newsun album right now at work. I can't find the words to describe how happy this makes me.

Huey "Piano" Smith & the Clowns, _Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu_. I have NO idea how human beings managed to gain access to so much intoxicated good cheer _and_ document it in a way that it can be communicated.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 13 December 2002 22:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Sub-thread: Most *UNLIKELY* album that makes you indescribably happy:

Mine would be CONCRETE by 999. Roundly derided as one of their worst albums (of which there are a few to choose from), it was one of the first arguably credible "punk" albums I ever got my hands on (and subsequently played to death). C'mon..."So Greedy", "Obssessed", their cover of "Fortune Teller"? This record never fails to cheer my scowling, hateful ass up.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 December 2002 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Usually it's sunny pop albums.

Rank & File -- "Long Gone Dead" (vinyl only, sadly)
Go Betweens -- "16 Lovers Lane"
The Las - self titled

But also -- ANYTHING by Big Joe Turner

Jim M, Friday, 13 December 2002 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

t.A.T.u. - 200 km/h in the wrong lane. Picked it up a few days ago at Best Buy for $6.99 on a whim, love it to death, definitely gives me the happy vibe.

David Bowie - The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, Hunky Dory.

Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty

Transvision Vamp - Little magnets vs the bubble of babble.

But above all else -- the Pixies, Trompe le monde.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 13 December 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Dictators Go Girl Crazy, always! "I don't have to do this you know! with my vast financial holdings...I could be basking in the sun in Florida! this is just a hobby to me, a hobby, do ya hear??"

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Friday, 13 December 2002 23:47 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm prone to mood swings ya dig

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Friday, 13 December 2002 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd hardly call 16 Lovers Lane a sunny pop album (sure, "Love Goes On!" and the music -- not lyrics -- of "Streets of Your Town"). Otherwise quite moody.

But yeah, that one makes me happy too.

Colin Saunders (csaunders), Saturday, 14 December 2002 04:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Yesterday I was abusing the privilege of FYE's scan-n-sample machinery and came upon a real gem: Meco's Star Wars. Yeah, big orchestral disco takes on all the theme tunes from the Star Wars trilogy. It's right up there with the music from the original '78 Gundam series, which I need to track down on CD. Just massively pompous and full of such excessive flourishes (incl R2 beeps) that I was hard pressed not to break out into a fit of giggles in the store. I don't know how much staying power this album will have, but I'm completely smitten with it at the moment.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 16 December 2002 00:45 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
I don't think there is a happier album than Shuggie Otis's "Inspiration Information." I always pop this on when I'm stuck in traffic in the hot sun on Route 1/9 in North Jersey. The opening "aaaahh"s take the pain away. When "Happy House" comes on, I want to smile and wave at the other people in traffic. By the double-guitarpeggio thing at the end of Strawberry Letter 23, I'm JIZZING all over the other people in traffic.
