My friends & I saw these guys play an outdoor show in 2003 or so. There were dozens crows flying over the stage when "Silver and Cold" played and we high fived each other, it was so perfect.

I never really got into these guys but I always enjoyed Davey Havoc, he deliberately chose this like boy adventurer name.

And Davey looking/sounding like girl Danzig, too, is great. I never got into regular brand boy Danzig, either, but both of these guys are pretty solid dues. Would have a crow-infested bbq with either of them.

Just listened to Black Sails in the Sunset last night to prep me for listening to this tonight. How I love that album.

still... remarkable to me that a band whose initials were thought by fans to mean 'abuncha fucking idiots', who had a song ranking breakfast cereals and who patterned themselves after reservoir dogs transformed themselves literally overnight into a proto-MCR band with songs called 'malleus maleficarum'

glad to hear this is good! i got into mid-period AFI (after they switched from snotty-punk to goth-punk but before they got too flashy) via an ex girlfriend way back, but i really couldn't get into the last couple at all.

The Conductor is pretty massive. I really am a sucker for deep low end horn stabs, pulled me in right away. otm about so many hooks.

i'm only really familiar with sing the sorrow, which i loved in college. i listened to the last two and didn't care for either. so i'm sort of enthusiastic about the new one from that kind of background, but i also think it might be a whole new order of quality from them.

Sing The Sorrow struck the perfect balance. Haven't listened to anything since Decemeberundreground but my interest in that music scene was already waining by that point.

I got into them at Black Sails, was def a little weird when StS came out but it fit what was going on at the time and they did it really well imo.

Those new songs don't do much for me, but i've listened to older stuff for the first time in couple of years today - liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Black Sails, All Hallows and The Art of Drowning are all solid, TAoD amazed me actually, didn't remember how good it was (this used to be my fav when I was seriously into them in high school).

Days of the Phoenix is great obv, this single might be their career peak for me - with title track, Wester, and A Winter's Tale (how this didn't end on TAoD LP I don't know, seriously great song). What amazes me is how smoothly the evolution from early, punk period into StS and later albums went - especially considering that they changed guitarist (and main songwriter) in the process.
