Which is better, when it comes to music gifts? And please do share your tales of horror and of triumph on both ends of the exchange.

To give is better than to receive.

Depends if whats being given is a gift or a wedgie.

o come on, 'fcourse "it depends" (nigh everything does!) but both can be fun

'bout giving, though, one of the strangest and most unexpected things to happen lately
(with me and the confused recipient, surely - or so *i* think)
was just a year ago when i taped on a cassette GSYBE!'s "lift yr. skinny fists like antennas to heaven" -- pencilling the name of the band and album on the cassette too, of course -- and sending it as a gift to my pal in Sweden,
and two weeks later getting a postcard that sayeth:
'oh thank you SO much! but who are these people who make this wonderful music?',
in reply to which i couldn't but state the obvious, once again --
after which i soon got another card with these very lines: 'i see! i really did think that what it said on the cassette was meant as your advice as to what i was supposed to do with my hands'
(no, he wasn't joking either)

I just gave GSY!BE new album to a friend, and he was really pleased.

The great thing about CD burners is that these days you can do both ;-)

It's better to receive - because you can always chuck it if it sucks - and if you spend a lot of time putting thought into what you're giving, and the recipient chucks it because it sucks, you've wasted your time.

I guess what I'm saying is, I haven't had much luck giving or receiving where the receiver was overly excited.

Then RECEIVE!

Asking this question on ILE would generate a vastly different discussion, I bet.
