Let's turn up our noses at what we can hear our coworker's playing right now!

The head of sales had Neutral Milk Hotel on before.
The secretary has been listening to New Order for like 3 days straight.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, to work with such hipsters...

On one side, hm let's see...yes, that's definitely Don Henley.

On the other...ooh, toughy...HEY! That's not music! I think that's Rush Limbaugh! Ew.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Pah, that's nothing my coworkers are playing a fucking Stereophonics album.

Luckily I don't need to turn my nose up at them, I just turn up the volume on a Dreamscape '93 darkside set by Ramos I'm listening to on the Mac Daddy.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

ach, hipness in the workplace. i used to seek refuge from the coworker playing Modest Mouse in the adjacent room where they had top 40 on

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:25 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a lot of Stereolab listening and Olivia Tremor Control talk around the water cooler as of late.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

wow you are so cool - you pshaw people for listening to NMH and OTC, - if only I could have such refined tastes

insectifly2, Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan Fogelberg

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I like otc and nmh! I'm just saying my office is mid 90's rockist central

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

One office neighbor is playing Christmas music, and the other is playing the Dixie Chicks (just like she does EVERY FUCKING DAY!)

paul cox (paul cox), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't have a job but at home (where i am now) my flatmate only EVER plays : the beach boys, hank williams, johnny cash, bo diddley, dead moon. so that's pretty cool.

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Jonathan, I think I'm in love with your secretary.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

They've now gone to Avril Levigne. I can guarantee this evening they will play Shania Twain at some point too, Train may also get a look in, god help what I'll do if Eric Clapton is on for a third night running. I've moved onto an Eliss Dee set from '92, ah the wonders of the internet.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

She has a Dismemerment Plan shirt and practices Wicca

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

we don't listen to music in the workplace
too damn distracting
sometimes, late at night, we watch videos on TV

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 20:22 (twenty-three years ago)

HA! i don't have to go to the day job every day
(am supposed to handle my other job right now, a longish translation, at home (which thanxverymuch to ilm goes awry ever so often)) -- but i'm damn positive that the guy who's at our office organising the archaeological finds of the past summer had today the local classical-music station on, as always

heh, but the secretary at the radio station, where i go and do my -third job alert! - various shows, mostly listens to godawful crap beyond description (you won't know any of those names anyhow, sorry -even i don't! tho' those bands are from round here),

fortunately the technical staff at the station are more encouraging, one borrowed my Mori/ Quine/ Ribot alb once, and another downloaded Depeche Mode in earnest last time i saw

t\'\'t (t''t), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Jonathan, thanks for letting me cross her off my mental list...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 18 December 2002 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

geez, to have a coworker who even knows who NMH or Stereolab ARE would be nice... my neighbor is currently "rocking out" to the lite-jazz of 104.something or other. I've always been mystified by people who actually enjoy - PREFER, even - listening to muzak.

Christmas music (the oldies station in our mailroom is temporarily the CHRISTMAS SUPERSTATION!!! for the season). And most of it is terrible. Did you know 98 Degrees have done a version of "Little Drummer Boy"? Do you regret knowing that now?

Also, I swore I heard Huey Lewis and the News cover "Let It Snow". It should have been played in tandem with "I Want A New Drug" for super-smirky laffs.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 19 December 2002 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

music ? in work ?
think yrslvs lucky.

piscesboy, Thursday, 19 December 2002 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I found this "Christmas station" on the radio that I

SWEAR

only plays midi christmas songs.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 19 December 2002 01:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Last job I had it was the shite pop station--3 Doors Down, Creed and Christina Aguilera haunted me.

Job before that it was the oldies station--Chuck Berry, Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger smiled at me with joy.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 19 December 2002 02:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think most of my coworkers are into Marc Anthony and Enrique. The really "cool" ones listen to Our Lady Peace.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 19 December 2002 02:07 (twenty-three years ago)

We only listen to boredoms and merzbow.

, Thursday, 19 December 2002 02:14 (twenty-three years ago)

My boss is, rather discondertingly, right now relaxing to the strains of threebrain's stupendously daft "Weeeeee Song". Anyone'd think it was 2001.

Charlie (Charlie), Thursday, 19 December 2002 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a home health aide, so I don't have any cow orkers. So there.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Thursday, 19 December 2002 03:30 (twenty-three years ago)

U2. Doves. Foo Fighters. Watch me try and explain who Comets On Fire are...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 19 December 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Just the low hum of the nuclear reactor sending me to sleep.

Remo (amateurist), Thursday, 19 December 2002 20:12 (twenty-three years ago)

We're not allowed to listen to music if someone in the room is on the phone. When I do hear something comming fro the bosses CPU its usually Launch- So Billy Joel and James Taylor. The other day though, they did play Lenoard Cohen, but I only heard him on there that one time....

brg30 (brg30), Thursday, 19 December 2002 22:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Dang,If I knew earlier that WREK was playing the Merzbox in its entirety work may have _been_fun today.....

brg30 (brg30), Thursday, 19 December 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd forgotten how essential that theebrain song was!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 December 2002 23:21 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
I like my new job, but I have had to listen to Hot Hot Heat, Primus, and bad ska for two days straight! The Primus actually makes me feel a bit sick - all those horrible burping bass solos...uuuuuh, must go and lie down.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

You know, there are actually only like 3 Primus songs with proper bass "solos". There are more bass solos on Beastie Boys records!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

As much as I love Primus though I can understand how it would make people physically ill. It might be the same things about it which I love so much.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My co-worker, in her 40s, listening to Sean Paul right now. I would turn my nose up if I wasn't digging it.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

When I saw that this thread had some new answers, I wondered to myself "Are any of those going to be nickalicious sticking up for Primus?", and lo and behold...

:)

Ok, not "solos", but that fucking sound, you know the one...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

all i hear is the sounds of "people" eating.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Thursday, 27 November 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

mouses clicking, heyboards typing

mentalist (mentalist), Thursday, 27 November 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a music dispute at my old job. See there was only one radio. The other girl working there, had been working there longer than me, but she was only 18 as opposed to me with years more experience. So she claimed ownership of the radio because of that, the teenage brat, and only played alterna-crap radio. I expected some sharing and after she totally wouldn't negotiate and let me listen to tapes (because radio sucks) I just started changing the station to terrible stuff while her back was turned. She finally said "no music". A few days later, in goes her Guns n Roses tape. As soon as it ended I stuck in some INXS. Man was she furious. The boss, being cool, stayed out of it and told us to "play nice." Mostly there ended up being no more music, which suited me fine.

sucka (sucka), Thursday, 27 November 2003 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

you're mature!

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 27 November 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

nobody ever accused me of that before.

sucka (sucka), Thursday, 27 November 2003 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

...anyways, who puts on music at work without reciprocating for other people if they don't want to hear it all the time?

sucka (sucka), Thursday, 27 November 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)
