I'm thinking of starting a petition calling for a Tom Waits rarities box set...

...who's gonna sign it?

As someone has already pointed out, no artist is more worthy, though I get the impression mr Waits doesn't like to release anything that isn't fully realised, it would be great to hear demos and b-sides and such.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 19 December 2002 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd sign it, it'd be great to have some of the stuff on the 5 volumes of "Tales From The Underground" etc. legitimately available just for starters.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 19 December 2002 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah i'd sign it
i haven't even got around to getting all his legitimate albums yet,but i'm sure i will sooner or later....

robin (robin), Thursday, 19 December 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

i know it's probably because of the rough way he sounds and all that. but i always got a demo-like feeling from tom waits. (i'd sign this petition too, of course.)

cecilia, Thursday, 19 December 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

+1

phil jones (interstar), Thursday, 19 December 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll sign this petition. I'll sign it again under other names like "Homer Simpson" and "Newt Gingrich" and "Akira", if that'll get it to happen faster.

If we can get another petition going to get Tom Waits to go on tour, I'll sign that one too. Faster than Hamid Karzi signed the Afghan pipeline project into action.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 19 December 2002 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i second the petition for the tour.
we have a mini-festival going here (last summer and summer 2001) called "waiting for waits": for the moment people like howe gelb, willard grant conspiracy, grand drive, steve wynn, jess klein, mary lee's corvette... have showed up and played at the festival, waiting for the Beast to come up. he is supposed to know about it :-)

joan vich (joan vich), Thursday, 19 December 2002 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll sign, too (2) -- have you checked out both Early Years volumes?

christoff (christoff), Thursday, 19 December 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

umm why dont you just make your own? i have like 5 cds of tom waits live/unreleased stuff. its not very hard to find.

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 19 December 2002 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Smart, you guys...but trust me, I have it ALL. Yes, I have the Early Years, I have stuff from other Waits net geeks. I have had the (original) recordings for Alice for 2 or 3 years...but hell, I want MORE. The guy's had a loooong career and there's got to be stuff he keeps for himself...

Where's that festival, Joan?

A friend tells me that he plays low keys shows in Northern California for his celebrity fans. "Y'know, like Bette Midler", he said.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 19 December 2002 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
Dude, the two albums thing was great, but you're not getting any older, let's keep up the pace...time for more!!!

Please!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

that should be "not getting any younger"!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless Tom becomes immortal...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"becomes"?

I have this one really nice track called "On the Road" that's kinda a tribute to Kerouac that he did with Primus...and it sounds WONDERFUL. Very lo-fi and scratchy, Les is playing upright, Ler is playing banjo, Brain is banging on stuff in the Tom Waits drunk-monkeys-banging-on-pots-and-pans percussion style, it's got a little sax in it, and Tom's voice is that crystal clear broken muck in full force.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I have that- I'm not sure about any of the Primus stuff, are they on "Filipino Box Spring Hog"?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Kerouac wrote "on the road"

I've got that on this Kerouac Reads On the Road disc that came out a few years ago. It includes that song, by both K. and W. and a few cuts of K. real drunk singing standards to what I originally thought was just a record player, but I think he mave actually been in a studio with a band, or with a band's tracks at least. I like K. drunk singing.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Kerouac wrote "on the road"

Yeah? ;)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

and also a book of the same name as the song "#9

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

(i'm shitty at the emoticon thing)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

What the fuck is "#9"?

Are you giving birth at me?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

" is eyes, # is Archie Andrews style hairdo and 9 is sticking out my tongue...duh! or just a bunch of keys I happened to hit

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

So...why would the eyes be above the hairdo?

?????????????????????????????????

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

well, cuz that part of the hairdo is like parallel to the eyes anyhow

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom Waits album songs w/ Primus (that I know for certain) = "The Earth Died Screaming" & "Big In Japan"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

They're on "The Earth Died Screaming"? I didn't know that.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

the drum guy from the Black Keys is nephew or cousin or something to frequent TW collab Ralph Carney

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh wait, actually Primus isn't on "Earth Died Screaming", just Claypool. My bad!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

in a creepy, distant whisper:
post it, and they will come

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Anyone know anything about an album, apparently a triple-CD, called Spare Parts? I DLed it, but can't find anything about it - no mention on AMG.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 11 February 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I still don't really understand why Adamrl likes Tom Waits.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 11 February 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Basic bog-standard generic yankophilia.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 11 February 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
YAY!
