Sheryl Crow AND Joan Osborne vs. Prince

You were there, too. You're listening to the radio at home or in the car. You hear "Every Day Is A Winding Road" or "One Of Us".

You think

A) "Wow. Music couldn't get anyone worse than this. It's all uphill from now on".
B) "Who IS buying this stuff".

Then you drive/get the bus/hike to your local record store, pick up the latest Prince jsut to see if the little genius has put the lead back in his pencil and...oh no. Caught like a butterfly on a wheel. How does he manage to make these soungs sound WORSE than the originals? That's some crazy concept of genius.

I don't think they're worse than the originals, but they're not fabulous, I must admit. I've only played "Rave" a handful of times, but I've never skipped those tracks either.

Sheryl Crow has some fucking great singles: "The Only Thing You Bring Me Is Down," or whatever it's called, is brilliant. "Strong Enough" is gorgeous. "Home" from the self-titled record even more so.

Sean-have you read the "sheep" stuff on the cd insert?????

Could someone reprint that here?

I really, really like Prince's versions of both of those songs, especially "Every Day Is A Winding Road". Every cover of crappy AOR should be tinged with house/Hi-NRG (see "Heaven").

Joan Osbourne is completely washed-up and not even worth discussing. For that matter, so is Prince.

Sheryl Crow? She's perfectly capable for what she does, only what she does is mind-numbingly dull to me. She looks good, though.

For that matter, so is Prince.

True, he could stay as vital and relevant as, say, Kil... oh, why bother.

watch it.

I've never had to listen to Prince's version of "One of Us" (thankfully), but I think he definitely improves "Every Day is a Winding Road", he at least upgrades it from unlistenable to marginally enjoyable.

And the part where Larry Graham bellows "Do you love Gaaawd!" is pretty funny. Stoopid Jehovah's Witnesses. Larry's involvement with that bullshit totally robbed him of the funk, sez I.

THE NEW PRINCE DOESNT HAVE ANY OF THESE SONGS YOU DOPE

I KNOW CHAKI-the above is a purely hypothetical situation
