i don't like starting these types of threads but i just wanted to see if anyone can convince me that theo parrish's jill scott remix isn't that fantastic... as a rule keep in mind the track's relationship to the original what does it do differently etc etc. include covers if you like

2nd fave: soft pink truth - makeup (also bear in mind i have a 2 week memory span)

i suppose i should say why... the orig jill scott was a trad, kinda pleasantly numbing walk away from yr man affair... parrish's version (with extra dash of record label ire!) is like the jill scott that never asked to be a vampire, and the sun's coming up and she's running away being chased by the sunrays and she's tired, she left it too late amybe on purpose and as the rays blissfully warm her back, in the seconds before before all is dust she basks in the freedom! and the clack of her running on pavement turns to the click of time, time on her hands a-and somehow in the interregnum she controls the time it bends to her will and it sings wipeout

Royksopp's remix of the Streets' "Weak Become Heroes". Makes it sound more appropriately wistful somehow, yet more danceable at the same time.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 20 December 2002 04:28 (twenty-three years ago)

the remix of Justin Timberlake is great!!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 20 December 2002 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

king britt's funke mix of josh one's "contemplation" takes a so-so downbeat track and turns it into the most propulsive, dynamic dance record of the year.
masters at work's remix of aaliyah's "more than a woman" is, fittingly, beautiful and sad.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 20 December 2002 09:53 (twenty-three years ago)

the synth pop reworking of "sk8er boi" is a great as the original. has someone claimed credit for this?

the ellen allien remix of 'rippin kittin' and the fischerspooner mix of kylie's "come into my world" - robot love!

any number of reworkings and re-juxtapositions of of "silver screen shower scene" also come to mind

Jeff W, Friday, 20 December 2002 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont like that ellen alien mix of rippin kittin at all, jeff, totally ruins the original!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:45 (twenty-three years ago)

off the top of my head:
gang starr remix of macy gray's 'i committed murder'
jedis mix of underworld's 'jumbo'
photek mix of therapy's 'loose'
monkey mafia mix of death in vegas' 'opium shuffle'
neptunes mix of daft punk's 'harder better faster stronger'
les rythmes digitales mix of we in music's 'now that the love has gone'
stereolab mix of avalanches 'since i left you'
stereolab mix of boards of canada's 'kid for today'
global communication mix of warp 69's 'natural high'
armand van helden's 'professional widow' mix - still classic
prodigy mix of method man's 'bring the pain'

stevem (blueski), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

a lot of those are not from this year tho, its more a general late 90s/early 00s thing - remix of the year for me is definitely LRD's 'silver screen shower scene' mix its gotta be said

stevem (blueski), Friday, 20 December 2002 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

in no particular order

'i wish i didn't miss u' - angie stone (hex hector)
'weak become heroes' - the streets (ashley beadle)
'i dont know what i can save you from' -
kings of convenience (royksopp)
'love story' - layo and bushwacka (tim deluxe)
'17' - ladytron (soulwax)
'deceptacon' - le tigre (dfa)
'distractions' - zero 7 (bugz)
'by your side' - sade (ben watt) *
'signs' - badmarsh and shri (dom t)*
'breathe in' - frou frou (afrodite remix)

god there's been 100's.

* dunno if this year !

i take it we're doing bootlegz seperately.

piscesboy, Friday, 20 December 2002 11:34 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, bootlegs need own thread, altho' it's a thin line sometimes as soulwax proved by science

speaking of whom, i nominate soulwax's remix of "can't get you out of my head"

i also liked both the remixes of "Grindin'" but i actually prefer the first one (with NORE was it?) to the "Selector" remix that everyone 'round here seems to love
