Now I have grabbed your attention with an inane thread title.
Who actually is the best band out of mAKE UP, Nation Of Ulysses, Gun Club and The Cramps?
and for the record i think The Cramps would win the battle of bikini girls with machine guns.
Make Up for the best album with 'Save Yourself'.

Prob NOU, I think someone from that went on to something good. I had a Gun Club record once, though.

Nation of Ulysses definately

All cool bands

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Friday, 20 December 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Nation of Ulysses gets my money. 'Plays Pretty for Baby' just gets better with age...

Sean Peoples (speoples), Friday, 20 December 2002 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Young Ginns
Make Up and related bands
The Fucking Champs

I have had Gun Club - Fire Of Love on my to buy list for years.I do have Mother Juno. and an old tape recording of Miami.
Who are the fucking champs? great name though.

Peter M, Friday, 20 December 2002 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

The fucking champs sound like Slayer - Satan - Vocals + time changes

Prog metal I guess

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Friday, 20 December 2002 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Prog metal? i hope you dont mean like Dream Theater or Rush.

Peter M, Friday, 20 December 2002 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

poison ivy could take em all solo

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 20 December 2002 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Not at all... it sounds like early Cave In without vocals

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Friday, 20 December 2002 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Dream Theater are one of the worst bands of all time. 2nd only to Grateful Dead.
I once was in a car going to work with Dream Theater playing. And all the guy went on about was how far superior technically DT were to other bands, and how he couldnt understand all this alternative metal that kids listened to, because they couldnt play their instruments.
and how modern concerts didnt have drum and bass solos anymore because "noone is technically proficient with their chosen instruments anymore because its not 'cool'".
He was about 23 as well. Not some 40 year old longing for the days of yes and Rush.

Peter M, Friday, 20 December 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Trust me. NEVER get in a car with someone who speaks about how "Mike Portnoy and Neil Pearts Paradiddles are superior to anything in modern music".
I and everyone else who was in the car had no idea what a paradiddle was but everyone was laughing hysterically.

NOU

geeta (geeta), Friday, 20 December 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

None of the Above. Hahahahaha.

No seriously, of any of those, the only one I still kinda like is NoU.

Oh for crissake, Cramps/Gun Club! The Make Up?? Ok, cool name anyway. But please.

And of course, ARTHUR TO THREAD!

Sean (Sean), Friday, 20 December 2002 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

1. Kid Congo line-up of Gun Club
2. Gregory+Knox/Linna or line-ups of Cramps
3. Ward Dotson line-up of Gun Club
4. Kid Congo Cramps
5. all other Cramps
6. all other Gun Club
608. Nation of Ulysses
746. Make-Up

(The first four are very close and ratings are almost arbitrary.)

dan (dan), Friday, 20 December 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

The Jeffrey Lee Pierce/Ward Dotson/Terry Graham/Rob Ritter/Texacala Jones lineup of Tex and the Horseheads!

No, I think I'd take Dan's choices and switch them around a bit--1)Gregory/Knox Cramps 2) Kid Cramps 3) Dotson Gun Club 4) Kid Gun Club. But he's right, it's arbitrary.

I'd take the Makeup over Nation of Ulysses. But then I never saw NOU, what do I know. I like that Cupid Car Club single best of all, though.
