It's like a realization of so much of what I've wanted to achieve or find.

I haven't really enjoyed much of the little Bailey I've heard, but this one interested me in a "if I found this used I would pick it up" sort of way. Good place to start?

I love it, and yea, I think as a CD it's a great way for newcomers to get to grips w/DB's method/style/ideas. It makes you think abt Bailey's relationship w/ 'the tradition', esp. the jazz gtr tradition going right back to Charlie Christian, and it makes you think abt the differences between composition and improvisation. Plus it just sounds utterly fantastic!

I think Zorn deserves some props for encouraging/supporting DB to try out new things, new contexts/collabs - the Mirakle rec on Tzadik is v. nearly as gd, in a totally diff way.

It's the first DB I've bought. Picked it up last week and I very much enjoy it. So, yes, I'd say it's a good place to start.

I was pretty blown away by this. I haven't picked up the "Pieces For Guitar" yet. Is it good?

yeh it's damned fine - i do find myseld listening more to the @mirakle@ album w/ jamaladeen tacuma and calvin weston tho' - db goes disco funk (almost) and it's almost as if he's "joining in" on that too!

seven years pass...

I've only heard this for the first time recently and I like it more than expected. At times his sound here strikes me as very similar to Baden Powell's (especially in a live Hamburg recording I have where he takes apart "The Girl from Ipanema"). I've been put off by some of what Bailey has had to say in interviews and in his writing, but I'm finding this material at least pretty accessible.
