Okay, is there a BAD Basement Jaxx remix out there?

I am boggling because it seems like everything these guys touch is genius. Even songs I hate in their original forms (JT "Like I Love You", PSB "A Red Letter Day") are essential listening after the Jaxx gets their hands on them.

So, what's their worst remix? Is it actually bad? (I will be downloading all suggestions and giving my impressions.)

'red letter day' grew on me, initally i didnt think much of it

you could say their remix of Daft Punk's 'Pheonix' is the worst cos its so mental...altho in reality, its because of the complete anarchy and surrealism of the mix that makes it their best for me, my other favourite 4:

perhaps their mix of 'Belo Horizonti' by Heartists is the laziest thus worst because it doesnt really add much to the original 'Celebration Suite' track by Airto

oop, favourite 4: Lil Mo Yin Yang 'Reach', Nikita Warren 'I Need U', Adonis 'Rockin' Down The House' and the Brix edit of 'Fly Life' with the mad helium kazoo solo

the remix of Like I Love You is worse than the original, its still very good tho

ditto Chupra. There are at least three Jaxx versions of it though.

My favorite thing they ever touched was Corrina Joseph - "Lonely" which is what all music will sound like in heaven.

Good call on "Lonely", Spencer! I love that track too.

thanks for reminding me about that spectacular track as well :)

There are at least three Jaxx versions of it though.

I've only got the Jaxx Acid Dub (which isn't that hot I think) and the Basement Jaxx Vocal Mix (nice job) - what's the third one?

While I haven't really heard the Jaxx producing anything awful, I can't really say they're that exciting either, sorry. But they're a guarantee for at least a decent remix, so their current status as preferred remix team for US chartpop is a massive improvement on previous favourites Junior Vasquez, Hex Hector and Thunderpuss (which were all shit).

i dont think there was a MORE exciting production team in dance music than the Jaxx...at least, from '97 up to the release of 'Rooty' - the whole reason they got labelled things like 'punk garage' was because of the way things sound on their tracks (harsh, crazy sounds you didnt hear anywhere else at the time...elements of early Warp and R&S especially) and the way the sounds are used and when they occur (unpredictable, sonically advanced and haphazard tho still rhythmic)...you dont really get a feeling of that on their remixes for Missy and Justin...a shame really because they couldve done something really fucked up for Missy but opted for their standard pop-house vibe, nice as it was

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

No doubt they could've done more fucked up mixes, but we're talking about commissioned work intended for chart/radio use...if the label execs would've wanted weirdness they would've hired Marc Arcadipane, Vitalic or Überdruck.

(Who Überdruck Siegbran?)

stevo (stevo), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 22:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Dirk Nothroff and David Rzenno, German producers of stomach churning twisted acid/hardtrance. Website here, and a sample of "Fat As Fuck"

(thanx siegbran, acardipane + vitalic are gods in this household so mighty curious)

Also, search Drugface Cunt Master (Überdruck Remix) - it's got that Horrorist A Night In New York urban nightmare feel combined with a hard-as-nails production with an ungodly amount of bass that will peel your wallpaper clean off.

the vocals of '4 my people' fit pretty well over MOST dark, warped 4/4 Jaxx tracks (e.g. 'I Live In Camberwell', 'Supergetoff', 'Set Yo Body Free', 'All U Crazies') which at least shows they couldve done something like that with it as an additional dub or just something for club DJs

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 2 January 2003 11:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Siegbran, there's also a mix called (Basement Jaxx Mixshow) that's 5:03 (it's very similar to the vocal mix).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 January 2003 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
How come I hadn't heard their remix of Yoko Ono's "Everyman... Everywoman..." before? It's so good!
